Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

For some years there has been talk about changing the junction of Alfoxton Ave and Frobisher Rd with Green Lanes. Back in 2014 was this one but the TfL funding for that wasn't successful (apparently it failed to get funding as they applied for two similar sized schemes so only got funding for the other one).

Anyway, FYI, the latest is they're trying again and this is what they want to do:

So, no lights to turn left into Willoughby from Green Lanes to make your shortcut across the top of the ladder. Less obvious incentive to do a similar journey from West Green Rd.

Where they appear to have some blue tarmac (I can't imagine it's water) opposite Frobisher Rd, there is an underground public toilet, would be nice to have that back and the Queen's Head a pub again...

West Gate Common would make a lovely block of flats and then they could move people out of the housing behind the station and build the biggest grandest tower in all of Haringey!

For me there's a lost opportunity here. At the moment the so-called "Greengate Common" (the triangle of park just above the fluorescent green line in the diagram) is stranded between three busy roads. As such it's unused. The new plan doesn't change that. This potentially nice piece of parkland will continue to be unused.

To make any traffic scheme work, you need one lane each way along with some bus parking on West Green Road and probably a two land exit on to Green Lanes. All of this could be accommodated on the rather wide strip of West Green Road to the north of the park triangle. Alfoxotn could then be made a shared space access only road and the park would be rescued form traffic.

They managed this with the far busier traffic circulation around Trafalgar Square. I cant see why a similar approach couldn't work here.

No, they could build flats on it and then demolish some low density housing somewhere else to use as a park instead. Perhaps a strip across the top of the ladder about 15 houses deep starting at FairfaxFalkland Rd and extending to Hampden.

Not to mention that it also fails to include the wonderful Frobisher Gate or rising bollards that have received such favorable support in the past. I wonder if our traffic steering group people will be fighting for those at the meeting tonight?

What's "it" in this instance Ant?

Just that plan of their proposed changes i posted. What they've labeled as "PREFERRED OPTION".

Got it.

This is dated July 2015 and using Haringey's logo from 10 ish years ago. Definitely the latest?

Do you have a link?

No, but its what they have just sent me today as their current plan. This was in reference to item (6) from the last traffic steering group meeting minutes -

"6. The issue of whether the Alfoxton Avenue junction is included in the study area was discussed. It was explained that a separate project had examined this junction and developed proposals, which the council are hoping to progress once funding can be secured from Transport for London. As such, it is the intention that the present study does not duplicate the previous work done."
