Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Jarelle Francis, a 31 year-old Londoner and business man, born and bred in Haringey, has been selected to stand for the Green Party in the Harringay by-election to be held on 28 July 2016.

‘In the wake of the EU Referendum and the meltdown this has caused in the Labour and Tory parties, we need fresh perspectives. We need a new voice that captures where Londoners, and especially younger Londoners are at,’ says Jarelle, who is delighted to have been selected against stiff competition.

‘We came second in Harringay ward in the London elections; we have a message that engages people, and we believe that after over 40 years of Labour rule in the borough with little effective opposition in recent years, we have something new and fresh to offer local people,’ says Gordon Best, Deputy Chair of Haringey Green Party.

Jarelle says ‘We all know the headline issues in the ward and in the borough. But we want to hear what you, each and every individual voter in Harringay think about these issues – and about other issues, which you feel the other parties don’t consider.’

Jarelle, a former small business owner himself, knows how difficult it is to keep small businesses going, and therefore says ‘I would like to work with and help the small businesses along Green Lanes because they are the heart of Harringay’.

We know many of you are angry: about the Referendum result, about not being listened to, about a Council that has been overseeing cuts in essential services against the wishes of local people. We are angry too. Another Labour voice on the Council won’t change anything.  Another LibDem voice on the Council won’t change anything either; they haven’t in years. A Green voice in the Council will provide a new approach to hold Labour to account. We can challenge them on the privatisation of Finsbury Park, the need for affordable housing not speculators’ tower blocks, and the horrendous levels of air pollution that especially affect Harringay ward – we support the Living Wightman campaign.

Jarelle particularly encourages people who haven’t voted in the past to register and cast their votes. The referendum has shown that votes do make a difference, for better or for worse.  There’s still time to register for this election the deadline is 12 July – here’s the link to the registration website: gov.uk/register-to-vote, so don’t miss this chance to make your mark. And let’s turn Harringay Green on 28 July 2016.

As a resident of 22 years in Harringay, I support Jarelle.

I have met residents who say they have never voted, and will vote for Jarelle, so to attract people who don't feel they are represented is good for local politics.

Let's encourage all residents to vote and not be disillusioned anymore, and produce higher election turnouts in the future in Harringay.

Jarelle is the real deal, let's not miss this opportunity to support him, wherever we can. Let's Get Harringay Green! We deserve better.
There is a Hustings for the Harringay By Election at North Harringay Primary School, Falkland Road, N8 0NU. So if you haven't already had an opportunity to meet Jarelle, come and hear him before the election on the 28th of July.
