Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Postal Vote.
I have been told that my postal vote will not be posted to me until next Monday. I sent my application form back to them weeks ago . This is only 10 days before the referendum . If anybody goes on a 2 week holiday (which is not uncommon) they will have no chance to participate. Anybody else in this situation ?

A friend of mine and my brother (who live in Hillingdon and Ealing respectively) both got their postal votes 1-2 weeks ago. How unsurprising that Haringey is lagging behind the rest! I agree it's a joke to send it out so late in a referendum - it's not like a local election when the candidates could change at the last minute. We have known what the options were for a while now...
Could you do a proxy instead?

You will have to cancel your postal vote before you can do it by proxy.. The cut off for cancelling postal votes was yesterday at 5pm

I couldn't be ****d to go for a postal, but we are away 23rd so got a lovely neighbour to do proxy vote. Need to download form, fill it in and post it.

On Twitter Haringey council told me they had started posting them this week. I haven't received mine though. It was a new application for a postal vote. I don't head away until the 22nd but I'm still paranoid it's not going to arrive, and this is such an important vote.
They make it so difficult to vote in this country it's no wonder the turnout is low. I had to print the form (requiring access to a printer), fill it out, put it in an envelope, look up the address I needed to post it to, write that address on the envelope, put a stamp on it and send.
Whereas I am also registered to vote in NZ (and keep my vote there as long as I don't leave it too long between trips!). They just have a website you can log in to and update your details. You vote by scanning or photographing your voting paper and uploading it to the site. The first piece of mail I got at my new flat was to confirm my updated voter registration.
I'm away this weekend too - really hope it's there by the time I get back!

Hi. I rang the returns office this morning. Postal votes for Harringay residents will be sent out on Monday (13th). If you have applied for a postal vote and your application was accepted, it is now too late to cancel it for a proxy vote.
But the deadline for proxy vote applications for everyone else is Wednesday (15th)
