Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Apex Towers planning meeting is finally happening, Monday May 9th. 7pm WG Civic Centre. See para 7 of this agenda, see the contemptuous dismissal shown for the 213 objections. And they want our votes? http://www.minutes.haringey.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx…

Pam, I agree with you about the value of the site, but using the 'estate Agent's time scale' and exaggerating the overall travelling time won't help your cause. To the 13 mins 'on train time' add five minutes down at Seven Sisters and about ten to fifteen minutes up at Oxford Circus. Or is a direct lift from Apex Tower down to the platforms planned?

The average overall travelling time was about 22 minutes in my day. I don't think that has changed much in the intervening years. That's a good ten minutes longer than you infer. 100 minutes more travelling time a (5-day) week.

Hugh was deleting Clive's multiple postings at the same time I posted the above..

Perhaps he can find my posting again?

If Sadiq Khan wins today, could we request that he calls it in?

If Sadiq Khan does win, why do you think he would call this in? Given that Labour command an 84% majority of the Haringey Council seats, and 9 out of the 11 committee members of the Planning sub-committee who are scheduled to attend the 9th May meeting are Labour councillors?

Some Labour councillors don't follow the Progress line.  And they all know that their votes are not theirs forever.

True, although another Labour controlled council not a million miles away certainly did a number on Woodberry Down. The two tallest towers there are equally if not more imposing than Apex House, given their prominent position on the local topography. So, sadly, expecting Haringey Council to reject this development based on its imposition on the local area could be wishful thinking.

Agreed, but those two towers are not in the middle of row upon row of two and three storey housing and two-storey shops.

I was enjoying the afternoon spring sun shining through my tree and along our road here at the weekend. Then I realised that I will never see it again if they get their greedy way.

...also, the Manor House towers are not as butt-ugly as the planned Fagpacket Tower.

Well that's subjective, because I think they are a real eyesore and something that would be much more at home in Canary Wharf than Manor House.

For the record, I think the Apex House development is just as much of an eyesore as Woodberry Down, and the picture you have posted perfectly illustrates why you have every right to be very upset about the proposal.

agreed they are well out of place, and on a hill and at 32 storeys they are a worse intrusion than Apex. At least the shadows only fall across the duck pond. (I don't know the area from the ground so it could be horrible to live in range.)

They are because people blindly vote for them regardless. Has the hapless Lammy put in an objection?

I think Councillor Carter will confirm-if he's around- that rejection of planning applications can only be made on planning grounds. The political composition of the committee is, or should be, irrelevant!
