Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

You maybe interested in the following programme: Radio 4, 21 Jan, 11am .... 'On the Top Deck'

Travel writer Ian Marchant travels London's buses, talking to drivers and passengers young and old, and to the people trying to keep order in the face of a massive increase in the numbers of teenagers using buses. He hears the feelings of many older passengers that things have got out of control; that crime, overcrowding and anti-social behaviour have increased; and that some buses have been turned into mobile youth clubs. Plus teenagers talk about the unwritten rules of the top deck: who may sit where, what you can get away with and the risks of being robbed.

Something to be said for bendy buses then ? :-)
You took the words right out of my mouth John..

Yes, the younger generation are guilty of anti-social behaviour.. and not only in the U.K. Seen through the eyes of their elders, I don't think that there was ever a generation that wasn't. But, the majority grow up to be law abiding citizens. Continually labelling kids as 'criminal' is not a good thing in my opinion. And is perhaps a sign of a society loosing confidence in itself. Rebelling against authority is surely part of the process of growing-up.

I don't think I was perfect myself and I bet most of us here on HoL had 'dark moments' in their youth.. Chucking 'loaded' sandwiches at commuters waiting at stations, from an express train speeding through Northern France towards Paris in 1968, springs to mind.. I'm apalled even thinking about it now!

Just because, a BBC producer looked around for 'a Story' to make a programme on, doesn't mean that the world as we know it, is coming to an end.
And don't older folk get a little set in their ways, often shall we say, ready with an pre-set answer.

See; Crime on route 29.
I'm not into continual 'doom and gloom' - it's bad for the indigestion..
a W3 bus stop is outside my house (crouch end).
this bus is no worse than any other bus.
it happens to pass thru areas that are rough.

is my next door neighbour. listen to her say that
W3 is NOT worst in london.
