I swim regularly at Tottenham Green pool, which has been managed by Fusion Lifestyle for a couple of years. Every week, one or more thing is broken or out of use - toilets, showers, hairdryers etc. Several people report it to staff and eventually it gets fixed, by which time something else is broken. The quality of the fittings used in the recent refit does not seem up to the level of use that they get.
But today things reached an all-time low: three out of five showers in the ladies changing room, were blocked and flooded with several inches of filthy water; a toilet seat had snapped in half rendering it unusable; the steam room was not working - which we were not told of on purchasing tickets; more than one locker had no door. And on top of that, for the past two weeks the pools have been much colder than they should be, due to boiler problems.
Add to this that there was a man sitting in the 'women-only' sauna session who refused to leave until staff came to make him and community police had to help eject some louts from the main pool; the whole experience was far more stressful than relaxing.
I know that the vagaries of customer behaviour are not Fusion's fault - but the general air of decrepitude, breakdown and lack of care don't encourage people to value the facility. Staff are on the whole very pleasant and co-operative, but there just aren't enough of them - maintenance and cleaning seems a very low priority.
I wonder if this is a Fusion-wide problem - they run umpteen other leisure centres around the country, so presumably have some experience managing them - or just the Haringey effect?

The small pool at Tottenham green has much cleaner water than Park Road.
The main pool has been operating for a couple of weeks at a fairly cold temperature. Yesterday (Sunday) we were in the teaching pool. The water was so hot, all you really needed was a bar of soap and you were in a bath. In there again this morning but considerably cooler, thank goodness. Apparently TGLC has five boilers, but only one of them is currently working. When the main pool's cover broke last year, swimmers had to put up with a 3/4 length pool until the cover could be removed from the pool. There is no sign of a replacement cover, but if there was one, no doubt the temperature would be more consistent, not to mention saving energy. There's a bench in the ladies' changing room which was dipping towards the floor for some weeks before a notice was put up (at least a month ago) saying the fault had been reported and a large orange construction was put in front of it, to stop people using it. I'd reported it and I've no doubt others had well before this action was taken. We're down to 2 of the 3 hairdryers and the one remaining nozzle was stolen the week before last. I reported these issues last week so it'll probably be some time before something's done. The steam room went out of action some time on Monday (it worked Monday morning but didn't Monday evening) but it was repaired on Friday. I can't help but wonder if it was repaired quickly as Fusion was losing money.
As for the cleaners: they come in and get the place ship-shape first thing every morning. I'm afraid it's down to Jo/Joe Public to keep it like that. There are plenty of bins around and if something's messy, report it to reception. Unfortunately, it only takes a few people to ruin other people's pleasure. (Shame on them.)
I agree that most of the staff are wonderful.
