Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hello HOL

Canvassing views/advice. I came back from a long drive Sunday night to find Roseberry Gardens, where I live, chocca block and no space to park. I parked up on Devon Gardens, assuming that my annual permit for Roseberry  reached that far. I went to work Monday, came back to find the car had been towed and that I had to pay £265 (£65 parking fine, £200 recovery from car pound in Edmonton) to get it back.

I accept the fine - clearly I should have looked at the restrictions, which say 'business parking only' but to get towed away seems excessive. There are no signs stating 'towing in operation' or something similar. I always assumed that towing was for offences that blocked other cars, disabled bays, were dangerous etc. I've attached a photo I took on the day of Devon Gardens - it doesn't appear to be the most used stretch of parking and hardly business critical.

I have no doubt that the council are protected by the law and I won't get anything back on appeal but I do wonder if there is anything I can do to prevent this happening to others. It should at least be made clear that they will tow from this area. What are others thoughts? Have I just been stupid and need to move on or is this something worth kicking up a fuss about?

Have they let you in yet, John M?
Or is a man who tries to 'live in truth' a bridge too far for your local ward branch?

I've actually not tried but I am enjoying all the emails.

Time flies when you're having fun, John.
Before you realise it'll be candidate shortlisting; and then selection. And people on HoL will be complaining again about the poor quality of those on the ballot.

One reason, despite knowing how many new members I'd need to swing the selection vote in Harringay, that I didn't do what John Blake did is that I didn't have anyone willing to be a candidate. Of course I also hadn't counted on the fact that they'd have to get past Luke Akehurst in an interview. He'd probably find anyone in Harringay interested in being a councillor a bit too lefty.

And if Haringey Parking Service won't listen, George, please don't be put off contacting Derek Dishman (Mr Mustard). He too is interested in the merits  of cases he takes up - the fairness or otherwise of the way Barnet - or occasionally other councils and TfL - have treated people.  And also the competence and professionalism - or lack of it - in the way this is done. He wants them to raise their game.

For an example of the latter see The incompetence of Capita (for TfL).   Yes, Charlie Cook (not the person's real name) had broken the rules. But so had Transport for London and Capita (their agents) by not sending a valid PCN within 28 days. And then by proposing: "to break the law in order to enforce it which just isn't right."
