Programme should have been called This is David Lammy. Not sure what the programme was trying to achieve and don't think it was very well put together. Would have been good to see at least some positive aspects of Tottenham, for a change.

And why didn't he have even a word of sympathy or advice for the "regenerated into oblivion" owner of a 65-year old family business, employing 28 Tottenham workers and supporting up to 28 families? Is it cos de man is ..........? (Adapt Ali G as appropriate.)

Lammy sat in that business owner's office saying he supports regeneration, using examples such as Notting Hill and Brixton and then said to this owner (employing 28 people) Tottenham needs jobs and housing. If this business can't afford to relocate that's 28 jobs lost! Maybe the plan is to re-employment them frying chicken at Chickentown. Is that what Lammy means by regeneration?

He didn't give a rats chuff about the man or his business or his 28 employees. I thought Lammy came across as smug. He told that business owner that 60% of the issues he deals with are to do with housing. I'm not sure the housing that will displace these 28 jobs is even for social housing.
The police chief handled that meeting with Ambrose's mother appallingly badly. If that is the Met's finest in charge then just wow.

The programme didn't seem to explain how the mother knew her son had an accident in his car and ended up on the scene first, only to find that her son wasn't there ... or have I got that wrong? It seemed all very bizarre, bit like the programme.

Take a step back and consider the alternative which would be to stall a huge generation project over an old timber yard...There will always be losers but it is for the greater good and I admire David Lammy for telling it how it is. You can't make an omelette without breaking eggs.

I don't think that's true in this case. And why would you want to keep a shabby old timber yard in the middle of a modern development? It would look awful. The business just has to be relocated it doesn't have to close altogether.

I take it Antoinette employs more than 28 Tottenham workers, shabbily or otherwise? I think it's clear that the comments from Matt, Artex Monkey and OAE above had to do with Lammy's attitude of smugness throughout the programme, but specifically his attitude towards a family who have been contributing to employment in his constituency over seven decades. So, too, Clive Carter's comment on "Regeneration" below. No doubt the man in question will have already been exploring possibilities of relocating his business - he would be foolish not to have done so long ago rather than rely upon the unreliable Lammy to come back to him with advice after four months' silence. Antoinette's parroting of clichés - 'there will always be losers', it is for the greater good', 'you can't make an omelette without breaking eggs' - tells us all we need to know about her own Lammy-like smugness.

I stand by everything I have said. You call it "smug", I call it living in the real world. You should try it some time. The regeneration, which will generate 100s of jobs, is SO much more important than this one business.

The timber yard, that you've called "shabby" and "old" is not the only example of light industry that is being dislocated for 'regeneration' (e.g. Archway Metals Ltd.).
Timber yards may lack glamour, but they are not only a source of employment but also a useful service for builders and the DIY among us. There is a continuing need for them and they'll just become much less convenient to access (there's a timber yard in Highgate that is on the Site Allocation plan, i.e. slated for development).
In my view, there is a great deal that is being sacrificed on the altar of Tottenham "regeneration".
