Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Well, blow me down. Just as you think Christmas is sussed, your employer disappears with all the money leaving you and 35 other actors unemployed and unpaid. Well, not 'you' actually. ME. It's a long story but myself and said actors are trying to find a venue where we can set up our own bar, charge a small admission price and entertain people as a sort of benefit for us.... cos Christmas is looking a bit bleak right now.
Try finding one of those at this late stage in the game!
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas, do let me know... and look out for the BBC's 'Watchdog' programme on 22nd Dec. They are currently planning to run a story on us poor starving actors. If you've no other ideas, wish us good luck and a merry Xmas. If you have a question about what the hell I'm talking about, I'd be happy to explain further or you can look at www.dickenschristmasparty.co.uk for our absentee employer's rubbish excuses and lies.
And bang goes my part time job in Woolworths!
Ta.

What area are you looking in? Any must haves or do you just want a space anywhere?
My God you're quick off the mark. Hi Hugh. Could feasibly be anywhere but relatively central is good. Somewhere people can feel they can get to easily at short notice. We were presenting bits of Dickens-style entertainment, carols, short performances etc. so maybe somewhere with a bit of character. What we do have is the stock to run a bar.. for cheap drinks. There is a church in Hackney apparrently but they were wanting 50% of the take and frankly that's too steep. We are all owed £1500 and we need to maximise whatever advantage we can. Otherwise, as Tony Hancock once said... 'Turkey feet and chips for Christmas lunch'! Cheers and thanks for replying.
Yeah, looks a bit sad eh..........sad old git sits drinking tea in front of his computer, listening to Bach, desperately hoping someone will write something on the website..........actually I just happened to be on line. When you mentioned looking for space, I'd thought you might be after something local and I wondered about the space those Haringey Arts folks have down at the Arena Industrial live/work area. But if it's not for local folks it may be a bit out of the way. If anything else comes to mind, I'll let you know. Let's hope some angel comes up with a great space more centrally for you. Buena suerte.

All options will be looked at. And I think I'm the sad old git drinking tea. Will look up that Arena place. Thanks.
Be careful about the licencing conditions for running a bar. Good luck, let us know where it is and we'll come along :-)
Thanks John D. Aren't the people of Harringay great!
Are you looking for a venue as a one-off event?
We are... currently. Looks like we might have got Bethnal Green Working Men's Club. Cross fingers. Thank you and all ideas still wellcome.
Not that central, but the Magic Flute is a great room. The woman who runs it - how to put this politely - a tad peculiar, but the room is a beautiful victorian hall. Could do with some decorating, but with the right lights no one will notice. We had our wedding there, and even though said woman enarly ruined it for me, everyone else had a fab time. So might be woth a shot?

Bit of a double edged sword but it may be worth a try. Thank you.
You can get by the licensing by flogging raffle tickets for say one English pound and you usually win a can of grog - cool!
Have you tried Hoxton Hall?
