Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hello HoL!

I wanted to put out a simple request to borrow some basic (e.g trowel, spade, garden fork) for a day over the coming couple of weeks.

As to a bit of context I will be soon moving out of a rented property on the ladder and my landlord is requesting a fine combing of the property's garden. Although I've been able to manage it to avoid becoming grossly overgrown in this time it has finally got to the point where some more specialised equipment could become useful! However as the new property I'll be moving to is without a garden I'm quite reluctant to buy a set for a one time use (this may sound a little stingy to some but I'm hoping fellow haters of unnecessary waste will understand!).

I know this section of the forum is usually reserved for sales and can additionally understand people's reservation about lending any equipment to a total stranger. That said I'd be more than happy to come to an arrangement involving, for example, a deposit to be kept until the equipment is returned.

Many thanks.

Your landlord needs to supply you with the tools to maintain the garden. As a landlord I am aware of this obligation.

Hi Philip, thanks for your response!

I had no idea that was the landlords responsibility. If it doesn't inconvenience you could you provide a link to somewhere I could find information I could forward to my landlord? I have a feeling I may have trouble convincing them otherwise.

I just googled it! Even found posts from landlords pissed off that they had to buy a lawn mower!

Read your tenancy agreement. It will state that you need to maintain the garden, that includes the front garden too. Speak to your landlord or letting agent for the correct equipment.
