Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Poor Poppy is a newly orphaned cat and she needs a new home. She is a spritely 15 years old and in good health. She is very loving, chatty and good company. She is also a good mouser. She does use her garden but spends most of her time indoors so a garden is not essential to her. If you can love her and offer her shelter, please let me know.

Hi Saddic. Were you able to find a home for lovely Poppy? I can't offer a home myself, but I have some contacts I can ask to see if they can help - so let me know if you're still looking for a home.

Justine - thank you so much for your enquiry. No, Poppy hasn't found a new home yet and is showing all the signs of a bereaved cat, so she needs a very special and understanding new home and as soon as possible. If you know anyone who can love and cherish her, I will be so very grateful.

Poor Poppy, she looks really cute, hopefully someone out there can offer her a good home. I'll make enquiries of my contacts.
In the meantime, you could circulate her details in local vets by drafting a good flyer including photo and details. For example, if you give details to Village Vet, they will put your flyer up in their North London branches www.villagevet.co.uk (Rosie is the branch co-ordinator and she is very helpful, her email is rosie@villagevet.co.uk so just email her the flyer and ask her to put it up in their branches for you.) It always helps to include on the flyer a couple of cute close up photos, the background story/circumstances, her personality details, good health and head it up home urgently needed and date it.

Thank you for such good suggestions and links, that is kind of you. I'll get something together and send it to Rosie and other vet surgeries in the area. Here's hoping

Poppy has found the perfect new home  Friend of a friend has need of a cat to love - thank goodness.

Thank you for your help, Justine. That was kind of you.

Well done Saddic, I'm so glad you have been able to find Poppy a good home. The following is just general advice I give to people on rehoming (I'm sure you will know all this, but just in case any of it is helpful)

If Poppy is microchipped, once you're happy her new home is working out, remember to update the microchip contact details to the new owner.

If Poppy is not microchipped, it's important to get her microchipped before you rehome her  - as if a cat gets lost and is not microchipped, she is at risk of being put down.

To reduce the risk of getting lost, in a new home ideally a cat needs to be kept inside for 2 weeks. (During this period, it's important not to leave any windows or doors ajar as the cat may get out and get lost). When first let out, make sure she is hungry, then she'll only go out for a short time, then feed her when she returns inside. By doing this over a few days in daytime (not at night), she will learn where her new home is.  If they have a microwave, they can get a Snugglesafe heat pad to make her bed warm and cosy at home - all cats love them. When she has settled in and using her cat flap to come and go freely during the day, it's a good idea for them to lock the cat flap at night so that she is safe inside at night. All the best.
