Hi Justine,

I believe the mother cat and her kittens have been taken in by a concerned resident in the area and are doing fine, the RSPCA are aware and I hope this news offers some reassurance. The last update I received was that the animal shelters will take the kittens at 8 weeks once they are weaned and the mother can then be taken to the vets, it was thought she was abandoned once discovering the pregnancy.

Thanks for letting us know Peter.

Unfortunately this situation is all too common and preventable. We need everyone out there to get their male and female pets neutered and microchipped and give homes to rescue animals. Many healthy pets end up being put down as places like the RSPCA can't home them all. Many pregnancies also occur in very young cats as people don't realise a cat is at risk of getting pregnant from 5 months old so needs to be neutered from 4 months old. Let's hope things will improve as there is an enormous pressure on animal rescue homes and they need our help.

It's good to hear someone in the neighbourhood is kindly taking care of them.

Hi Justine,

The mother cat is Fine, I and a friend rescued them and they are doing very well there is 3 boys and one girl , they already been checked by a vet.

Hi Adilson. Well done! It's so good of you to take in the mother cat and kittens and look after them. It's great to have people like you in the neighbourhood helping animals.

I'm sure you've got it covered, but I know of someone experienced in animal rescue, who does a lot of charity work locally, helping stray cats, in case you need any support, help or advice.

For example, I don't know if you're able to give the mother cat a long term home - but my contact can sort out her neutering, microchipping and flea treatment if you need help. She can also advise/help on homing the kittens in due course.
The important thing is not to take the mother cat to the RSPCA for rehoming as it is likely that she would end up being put down there.

Hi Justine,

Just to update the news, the mother cat will be spay today and there is 3 girls and one boy, the boy is already been adopted but a local neighbour. My friend is looking after them, as I already have 2 cats and 4 budgies.

I just wanted to pass on contact details of someone experienced in rescue who can get help your friend with homing/advice if needed. It sounds like your friend is doing a great job looking after them (as it's important that the mother/kittens don't end up at the RSPCA for rehoming as it is likely that they would end up being put down there). It's great that the mother is being spayed.
