This is the latest mailshot from the Crouch End Neighbourhood Forum, which is on the very brink of applying to the London Borough of Haringey for official recognition under the Localism.

A Definition of Crouch End - in order to be accepted as a Neighbourhood Forum we must draw a line round what we believe is Crouch End, and then persuade Haringey that we have got it right. The blue line on this map shows where we are drawing the line at present. For a bigger version click here.

Thanks Adrian. Am I right in interpreting that you had 5 responses from Farrer and Park - 3 yes, 2 no?
Looks like 4 - 2 to me hence Mark's more detailed work
Yes, I guess if you add Park Road to the mix it would be.
I was interested in how many residents from Farrer and Park Avenue had been polled and what the responses were - if you have that to hand and want to share. (But it's none of my business I suppose....)
The map-plotting field work gave us 6 responses on the online map, and a further 10 on the physical map. The walkabouts interviewed approximately 12 in the area, and the shops canvassing a further 23. The discussion at the WERA AGM involved 60-70 residents (albeit drawn from across the Warner Estate).
I would imagine that the reason anyone on the north side of Priory Road /Hornsey High Street identifies as living in Crouch End is because estate agents who sold them their homes said they were in Crouch End and charged Crouch End prices.
Many people living in Nightingale Lane and the roads of it are convinced they live in Crouch End!
Priory Road is in Hornsey. As a Ward it is in Muswell Hill, as is much of Park Road.
I am concerned that local groups are supporting estate agents in their quest to claim anything N8 (and now N4) as Crouch End.
BTW - I do live in Hornsey N8 - always have, always will as no one, as yet has claimed the Campsbourne Estate as Crouch End.
Hello Lesley,
We certainly weren't unaware of the estate agent effect - there were those who replied to our 'where do you live?' question by answering, "if I'm selling it's Crouch End, and if I'm buying it's Hornsey"!
And yes we did have many residents identifying as 'Crouch End' all over the Warner Estate and Nightingale Lane area, and Rathcoole too (all, on balance, remained Hornsey). The New River Est was as you suggest - despite its location, 6 out of 10 respondents said 'Crouch End'.
Nevertheless, in our defence the boundary we're suggesting does continue to assert that Priory Road, Priory Park, and Tottenham Lane down to the old schoolhouse are all in Hornsey.
Mark
Apart from the minor issue of the two roads I've already mentioned, I think you guys have done a stirling job - little sign of empire building or estate agent effect in what you've done. Good job!
