Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

With child safety issues at the forefront of our minds in Haringey this week, I picked up on this survey by Action for Children from a wee article in The London Paper yesterday.

What the London Paper was focussing on was the finding that 40% of people in the survey were against gay couples adopting. Apparently Action for Children found this shocking and disappointing. My reaction was different. I was very surprised that 60% of people think gay couples should be allowed to adopt. Asked to guess, I would have transposed the figures and felt that I was being optimistic at that.

It’s actually quite difficult to adopt, even if you tick all the right boxes. I know two couples who have/are adopting, one in Haringey and another in a another London Borough.

Putting kids and parents of differing skin colour is not received too well by the authorities, which I thought was terrible, a loving family is a loving family irrelevant what colour or sexuality you are

Two loving parents are and advantage of one, emotionally and physically, does it matter if they are from the same sex?

Like in Calafornia this week, the struggle against race boundaries was smashed, yet the struggle for same sex couples were ignored. From my point of view the struggles
are very similar.
I dont think a couples sexuality has anything to do with whether they will be good or bad parents, its completely ridiculous. However I do agree that its best to match a child as well as possible with his/her new parents and that includes race. Studies were found that black children adopted into white families often felt they had missed out on their black heritage. I read recently that couples that smoke are not allowed to adopt, a few years ago it was couples that were too fat couldnt adopt.
I feel sorry for the kids stuck with their natural fat smoking parents who are apparently hetrosexual but nobody wants to have sex with them.

Should people that cant spell be 'allowewed to adpot'?
Hmmm, life in care home v life with loving parents.

If I was a child, I know which one I'd choose.
