Problems for Nearby Residents from The Banc, West Green Road

HI Dan, yes I have (station crescent) have had car hit twice from Banc customers, and you can forget about parking after 8pm Thurs - Sun.

Have discussed the situation with a few of my neighbours and I know they are not happy.

I don't really want the parking restrictions extended as this will effect all of our visitors around the area and it's great to have the banc there and the boys who own it are locals and contributing to the area but as you say the noise, parking and other disturbances have become an issue.

What are your thoughts on the solution?

Hi PT,

We've been lucky so far and not sustained damage, but have had parking problems, noise, rudeness and dumping/litter on Clarence Rd. I have had to resort to putting the bins out on Thu-Sun nights if I'm going out so we don't have to carry a sleeping toddler half way round the borough.

I also don't want to change the parking controls, and don't think it would be effective if you consider that the customers don't seem bothered about actually parking on the pavement or using a blue badge to justify it (see below). I've been discussing with one of the local councillors and we've talked about a license review, planning consent for the structure itself and various other options.

I feel we should send a group residents letter to the owners demanding that they address the situation. I've also thought that we could do a coordinated 'bins out' protest. Feels fun and effective.

I have also started sending photos of the illegally parked cars to the council.

Any other ideas welcome!

Hi Dan,

I have spoken directly to the owners and as I said above, they are local boys and I know they care about the area and how we as neighbours feel.

Maybe a meeting with them to air our concerns about the situation is a good starting point.

Dear neighbours and fellow members of the community.

We would like to thank you all for taking the time to voice your thoughts and concerns about the issues raised within this forum. As most of you may know, Jan and I (Fabio) have been raised in Tottenham, attended Park View School across the road from The Banc and have been part of this amazing community for the best part of 20 years.

It deeply saddens us to know that some of you are unhappy or concerned about certain issues within the community. Jan and I always put the interests of our neighbours first and by doing so have made many friends within the community.

We first and foremost would like to apologise to you all if you have directly or indirectly been affected by any of the issues raised in this forum. Jan and I over the years have implemented many policies in regards to our business to ensure our neighbours are as peaceful and tranquil as possible.

Whenever called upon, we always aid our neighbours and resolve any issues presented to us. Any crime related issues we are yet to be made aware of either by one of our neighbours or indeed by the police. We would like to state that both Jan and I physically have confronted and stopped many drug dealers in the corners of Clinton Road, active prostituion in Gresley Close and individuals smoking illegal substances within close proximity of our premises and indeed the community. We vigorously take it upon ourselves to ensure our community is happy, peaceful and proud to have us here.

We would like to be given an opportunity to make things right in anyway that we can. As two locals we do care about our surroundings and indeed all of you.

We are both more than happy to set up a meeting with you to address and discuss how we can improve certain factors and indeed rebuild our relationship with you all, as stated the last thing we want is an unhappy community.

We are both available anytime and it would be our pleasure to talk with you all.

What a constuctive response. I can think of other occasions when a business has been challenged on this site and elsewhere and the reposne has been defensive, giving no sense of wanting to find a solution. From what you've written, I actually believe that you do want to work with locals to resolve the situation. 

Solutions may not be simple, but I'll be interested to hear how things work out.

Is this problem from "The Banc" or the nightclub where "The Black Boy" pub used to be? I noticed this terrible parking, but it was after "The Banc" closed.

Agreed, spillout from the club attached to the old Black Boy Club is usually loud and long, around about 4.30am onwards. Luckily it seems to be confined mostly to bank holiday weekends so yes it could be part of the car problem in the streets around the Banc, but if that is on a weekly basis then I don't believe it is. Once the new flats get built I'll be amazed if the clubs and bars around there will be able to get away with the kind of noise levels that go on at the moment.  Put it this way, I can now get a decent sleep thanks to having double glazing installed.  Angry of Surbiton.

I sympathise with you whoever is to blame. Not getting sleep is soul destroying. The only reason I mentioned that club is that I passed there one night at about half one and there seemed to be a few 4X4 vehicles and what I took to be chauffeur driven cars parking without respect for anyone. I cannot remember if it was a bank holiday.

Hi Dan, yes ditto regarding the above, we live on Clinton Road and are fed up with not being able to park after 7pm every night apart from a Monday. I think our road is the popular choice, what really annoys me is how close they park their cars to other cars, often only a coat of paint between them. I quite like the wheelie bin idea of yours, it would at least make them take notice. I'm afraid our problem parkers are patrons of 'The Banc' so we were not too impressed to hear that another establishment of theirs will open soon just outside Downhills Park, this can only make a bad situation worse. I have complained to the council as well and have been told to canvass the neighbours with a view to a petition of some sort.

I popped into the Banc on my way home this evening as I think it only fair to voice my concerns to Fabio & Jan personally as I have done before. They are both very upset about the situation as I've previously said they do care about the neighbourhood.

They told me that they want to find a long term solution to the problem and would really like us the neighbours to go and talk to them and voice our concerns.

I hate not being able to park outside or near my house after 7/8pm most nights of the week but I also don't want 2 young guys who have worked hard and grew up in this area to be a victim of their own success.

Fabio & Jan suggest some dates for us the residents to meet with you.

Dan, I also think the wheelie bin is a good idea.

The target audience for that cafe is presumably park users and locals, I would hope that no one would feel the need to drive there.  But not being a driver I wouldn't know.  What can we do to encourage people to leave their cars at home?

I live nearby though not near enough for noise to be an issue.  I am aware of some enforcement recently to do with drug dealing in the area (at least that's what I surmise from my observations).  Forgive me for not being more precise, I want to stay on good terms with certain neighbours even if I'm not a customer of theirs!  I will say I haven't litter picked any tiny ziploc bags outside my property recently.

I'm not a customer of the Banc either as it's not really to my taste, but I'm hoping the new place will be a good weekend brunch or coffee spot.

Having returned home just after 6pm wasn't surprised to find that I couldn't park anywhere near my house as usual, I was quite transfixed watching the determined efforts of a car driver to park her car in a space where it clearly was never designed to fit. Her passenger whose spacial awareness skills need a lot of fine tuning was directing and encouraging her to continue on her quest, which was a source of immense amusement to them both. After several aborted manoeuvres she fulfilled my prophecy and hit the parked car behind her. You might think this would have been a cause for concern for them but no, it only added to the merriment. They had a quick look and a few shoulder shrugs each and off they went. This was one that I managed to witness, I wonder how many I've missed. As I've stated before my main gripe is the way these drivers are trying to force their cars into spaces that are obviously not adequate with little or no regard for the residents already parked there and paying hefty prices annually for permits.
