The London Blogger "Diamond Geezer" has just posted a blog about Lordship Rec's Model Traffic Area:
"Most parks have a playground, a few have a model village, but only one has a Model Traffic Area. That's Lordship Recreation Ground in Tottenham, the largest park in N17, which boasts a young person's facility like no other."
If you don't know what he's talking about then take a look at the blog & head over and have a look!
I spoke to someone who said that the model cars were still around in the early 1980's, until Thatcher's cuts to park budgets finally killed them off.
The blog following it is about the Moselle river, which is also visible in Lordship Rec.
It would be great if they brought back some cars for the kids to use. At present it isn't used for anything!
It's used a lot by kids for cycling & scootering - at least at weekends
Us runners love it! Great way to add a few KMs to your session with all the twists and turns! But I would much prefer to see it being used for its original purpose.
There's a fantastic 'Mr Cholmondley-Warner' style video from the 1930s here, shot on the day the officially opened up the traffic area: ow.ly/J4IWl - well worth a watch.
Yes, I've heard this. Tbh I find it so incomprehensible that I'm not actually at the acceptance or belief stage yet. Do you think it will really happen? After all the investment in that park?
It's in this one: http://www.haringey.gov.uk/sites/haringeygovuk/files/site_allocatio...
Probably essential HoL reading...
