My husband used an NHS (non-Harringay) dentist but had severe problems afterwards, so has now gone private (Malcolm Schaller at 152 Harley Street) and is very happy there.  (Expensive but very good!)

thanks I will give it a go ....do you have an idea of the price range in terms of 1 tooth?

On the order of £6k, which included all the consultations, removal, implant, follow-up etc.  (It was complicated though so yours may be cheaper.) If you want to test the waters, the initial consultation was £210 + £97 for OPG radiograph, and then he sent a detailed (6month) treatment plan.  Good luck!

I recommend the Smile Studios in Palmers Green (4 stops on the train)

020 8882 8070.  Kathy Jones is the dentist, the surgeon is called Danny Something, extremely experienced and confidence-inspiring.

They have been great, the implants worked like a dream.

Also Smiledent is very good. There's one on the high road in tottenham. A friend had an implant put in there. It's very very good. I can't remember the exact cost but I think you'll be looking at around a grand.

Smiledent are my dentists and I have so far postponed losing any teeth though I know it will happen one day. But £1000 is an underestimate, I have put aside £10k for four teeth. Ridiculous I know but I hate the idea of losing teeth. Had a preliminary consult with their specialist which cost £170-odd including xrays of my whole jaw which look just a little too forensic on the big screen.

I'm told to resist the temptation of going to Hungary where it's dead cheap. What you save to start with is made up in lack of aftercare so needing many return visits.

I have an elderly relative who lives in Highbury N5 - who needs false teeth or implants as hardly any teeth left. If anyone can recommend a good NHS dentist, please let me know, either near Highbury or round here as I'll probably be taking him to the appointments.

Not in Haringey but good quality and good value. Dentale are based near Bristol and Stratford on Avon. I needed implants several years ago. They are essentially a private teaching organisation where dentists under training for cosmetic dentistry learn their craft. The work is carried out under strict supervision and the supervising surgeon keeps a close eye and will take over if there are any doubts. I have had three lots of implants, one small bottom incisor, one canine and another pair on one stem. I have never had any problem with them at all and you basically pay the costs of the operation. Mine worked out at about £1000 per tooth, but remember that the normal quoted price does not include unforseen extras(I required a build up on some jawbone) Its not a lot of fun to be honest, and I had to commute a number of times to Bristol, but I have never regretted it. If you can afford local treatment, go for it. I couldn't but it was worth the hassle.

Thanks, sounds useful, especially as I have a friend in Bristol to stay with.

Does Guys Hospital still do supervised teaching sessions?
