Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Very close to the northbound W7 Crouch Hill Station stop.  I think he would call himself a late night hot sandwich shop, licensed.  Practically invisible from the street unless you know he's there due to an aversion to overt lighting.  If you know what to look out for there is a well-illuminated 'M' sticking out from the upper fascia.

They're not sandwiches in the crustless cucumber sense but more as a burger is a sandwich.  They cost £7 each which seems a lot until you realise that you can't actually get through an entire one unless you are insanely hungry.

Everything is made on site, including the bread which is a substantial but softish focaccia.  There are 3 menu stalwarts: ham/egg/fried potatoes; The Spaniard which involves 3 monster sweet onion croquettes; and a braised beef one.  Plus a periodically changing special which currently (but soon to change) is curried lamb.  Also don't ignore the dessert which is always a home made choux bun filled with Gelupo ice cream and various garnishes.

You could call these kitchen sink sandwiches because they really contain everything but.  No end of vegetable garnishes/pickles/you name it which makes every mouthful interesting.

At first I found them a little underseasoned but they have changed chef and that seems to be no longer the case.  Tonight's lamb curry one was put together with slightly less care than previously but that is nitpicking.

You can eat in or take away.  They have a small but interesting drinks menu including Fernet & coke - perfect for a snowy evening!

Above all there's the affable young proprietor, Max.  Always happy to chew the fat and for the moment with a very trendy hair cut which I'm sure will grow out soon, just as long as he doesn't grow a hipster beard.  He deserves good custom for doing something different with proper food and which hits the spot when you are on the way home, hungry, from Finsbury Park.

I think Hugh needs to pay a visit.  Mainly open in the evenings but in the day as well at weekends.  Closed Mon/Tues.  No website I don't think but he's something like @lunchluncheon on Twitter.

I can also vouch for this place.  Simply incredible.  Great wine too - fixed price per glass (around £4.00 from memory?) so you choose based on taste rather than price.

Thanks Vaneska. Sounds well worth a visit.

(Do they only do monster portions or is there a lighter option too?)

Monster only.  I struggle to finish them, and have been known to take half home.

Hugh, if you're coming to Stroud Green then we should meet up and whinge about moderating forums.

Do you moderate SG?

----ah, yes you do. I just looked. I hadn't realised. Have you always done that?

Since June.

Yep, Andy knighted me before he buggered off to Walthamstow.

I'm clearly outta touch. I hadn't realised he'd followed the flow and upped sticks.

Lovely place and people. Delicious stuff. Funny though, I find the sandwiches a little underseaoned now, rather than earlier. Recently was a bit underwhelming in comparison to the first few weeks. Also, could do with changing the menu up - choice seems a bit limited once you go a few times. Brilliant place though, love having it around here, and probably the best food in this little corner of SG. Max (if that's his name) is ace.

Sounds amazing. Could you be a little more specific about the address please? What street is it on? Thanks.

Bottom of Crouch Hill, a few doors up from the Old Dairy.

Cheers.
