Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Have you ever wanted to learn calligraphy?

Calligraphy can be used for a number of things from a simple greetings card, addressing a special envelope, to invitations, place names for a dinner table and writing and framing a favourite piece of poetry.

Take a look at my website Learn Calligraphy.co.uk and learn how to use the calligraphy pen, what inks to use, how to make some basic letters, and how to plan and lay out your work. I have also included a brief history of writing, explaining how we came to be using the modern day alphabet from our humble beginnings in the caves.

I would be interested to hear your feedback on the web site. You can either leave comments here or contact me through the 'Contact' page on the website.

Do you stick to traditional calligraphy? I dabbled when I was at art college but it was slightly more obscure using various "inks" and writing tools, even stcks and mud. Always liked typography, even though I never specialised in it.
Hi Birdy. I usually use traditional tools but have dabbled with other materials myself. As long as you can make marks on a surface with it you can use it. Lettering in general has always fascinated me.
Thanks Chris
There's some great info there and some lovely examples of work.
I don't understand the formulas for page layout, though. Perhaps you could give a bit more detail?
Hi Danizgger
If you think of the margin units as inches or centimetres then you have it. So, for a single page layout the top margin is 2cm, the bottom is 4cm and the sides are 2.5cm (or inches). The same applies for the double page layout. These measurements give a good balanced appearance to the work.

Is that what you were looking for? If you still don't understand I'd be happy to try explaining in a different way.
I updated the website to try and make the explanation about margins a little clearer. On reading it again it wasn't that obvious from my original explanation. Take a look if you have time and let me know what you think. Cheers.
PS - apologies for spelling your user name wrongly in last reply.
