Why is Haringey Council's logo on this poster? Have they contributed money?

Hi John,

No they have not contributed money. Staff from the council are supporting the event by arranging the lights switch on at Salisbury Corner and safety of the junction for the switch on.  We will also hopefully have support from the Safer Neighbourhood teams for the parade.

So far our only local business to support the event is The Salisbury by providing a venue for the lantern making workshop and a donation from the lovely Cafe Lemon for workshop materials!  Thank you Cem at Cafe Lemon!  We are seeking support from other businesses too.

Are you coming along?  Will be good to see you there.

Anna

A Big Thank You to Homebase for providing a huge discount on all the bamboo canes and other materials for the lantern making workshops! Much appreciated.
Thank you to Winkworth Harringay for donating money to Harringay Lantern Parade this year! Much appreciated.

Thank you to Cafe Moka on Wightman Road for donating money to the Lantern Parade. Much appreciated!

Looking forward to it! Hope we'll segue seamlessly from our Winter Tree Festival that afternoon at Railway Fields, we'll aim to leave the Fields, bearing lanterns, at 4.20pm.

And thank you to Ruben and Nick G-T who are beavering away assembling dozens and dozens of LED lights for the lanterns.

Come along to Sundays workshop if you can and everything will be supplied for you. If you can't let me know and I will post instructions. Thanks
Wow....never knew Harringay Online was global. The kits are ones that we have made up out of different components - cut willow, wet strength tissue paper, masking tape etc. If you find a local willow supplier they are likely to be able to advise you on the rest. Our suppliers are in Somerset - Musgrove Willows. Good luck. !

You can get an idea of what the lanterns are like from some of the photos from the previous years ones, eg here or here.

Yes far nicer making your own than buying. The willow allows you to make any 3d shapes. They can be as huge or as small as you like. We use battery powered LEDS in ours. I went to a lantern parade a couple of weeks ago and someone had made a 2meter high swan - it was incredible. Will email you some pictures and further info once the workshops are completed ;-)

...and see the lanterns in action
