Have been struggling to find tradesmen to come and give reasonable estimates for external handrails on steps...does anyone know of someone reliable who could get this done as soon as possible before winter sets in? Please let me know of any possible contacts, quite urgent

Thank you for the advice but I don't think I would qualify since I am able bodied and it is a shared house. We need someone who can install railings for the front steps as a safety precaution for all who use them.
If you want just rails made from tubes, I dont know, but if you want better-looking made to measure railings I can suggest the guy who built my side gates. Costs more but will be an asset to the value of the house. PM me for number.
Sorry just sent you a message instead of a reply so repeating myself here...scary without rails, we have 13 steps, and probably almost as bad to stoop down to grab a rail and lose balance. This is why I'm so keen to get them up as soon as possible! Legal wise, if you're in rented the landlord should be responsible for health and safety of his/her tenants? Check it out...
Part K and Part M of the building regs can give you guidance. http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/br/BR_PDF_ADK_1998.pdf

A Kee Klamp system might suit. I have been in contact recently with Kee Systems for another project. https://keesystems.com/store/railing-systems.html
Thanks, I'm going to check them out
If this is for an older person Age UK Harringay did an excellent job for a friend of mine. tel 020 8801 2444
Thank you. I'm older but not sure I'd qualify now since I'm reasonably able bodied but may not be in the future! It may be that Age UK Harringay might recognize the urgency of getting rails on before winter. Most firms I've contacted don't get back, delay or say they can't do it for weeks. Thanks for the number, will give them a ring.
Stella,
Apologies, have only just seen this. I don't know if you've already found them, but these people were superb:

They fitted a suitably styled hand rail for mother's place in Crouch End at a very reasonable price just in time for winter a few years back. How busy they are now, I don't know, but they were able to come a lot faster than the others I tried.
