Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I got a call - on a very bad line - from someone who wanted to speak to me about a "minor traffic accident".  When I said I hadn't had a traffic accident and didn't own a car, he cut the call.

I assume this is another vulture. Anyone else getting these nuisance calls? Any advice?

Alan here is a script for you to consider:

"That's amazing! How did you know? I've got whiplash and been wondering what to do about it. Could you help?

[knock on wall or desk or worktop bench or whatever]

"Hang on there's someone at the door"

[place receiver down and go and do that washing up that you've left;

or similar chore. Return when chore complete and replace receiver]

I also use some of those strategies, if I'm not busy. Many of them come from call centres outside the UK, and take a few seconds to connect. If you pick up the receiver but don't say anything for 3-4 seconds it often hangs up automatically! I get very few 'real' calls on my land line, and if it is your friend they will say 'Hello?'
