Hi all.
Has anyone else noticed how horrific the images are on a constant loop being beamed out of the windows of Ersan & Co opposite the Salisbury?
When it was first being refurbished, it was a mystery as to what it was going to be, then as the 'PERSONAL INJURY, 'ACCIDENT CLAIMS' and 'MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE' banners were unveiled it became clear that it is a ambulance chaser megamart.
So what right? These [sort of firms*] have to be based somewhere.
My gripe is that they show videos on a constant loop of all of the worst things which can happen. There is one video in particular which features an awful car accident where a car crosses into the oncoming lane and is obliterated by a truck. I have been in a couple of car accidents, and they are no joke, and it struck me that this is particularly inappropriate footage to be broadcasting to the general public 24 hours a day.
Also the monitors seem to be beaming these out at about a million lumens, they illuminate the whole street, thankfully my bedroom is not on the street side or I would need blackout curtains.
Who can I complain to? (Besides you lot...)

Well, everybody's free to pick their battles: because we live in that building my neighbour and I have been tirelessly canvassing councillors, enforcement officers and numerous other parties to try (unsuccessfully) to get some results with this case. That took us a lot of time and energy, none of which we got paid for, and for a result that's disappointing to say the least. So if these issues mean that much to you, you're more than welcome to try and do something about it...

Yes, it is disappointing that local residents and especially kids still have to be exposed 24/7 to footage of nasty car crashes and people falling through glass tables. A good result would have been the complete removal of the screens, but apparently the current set-up is legal. Be thankful all the traders you're complaining about do not jump on the bandwagon and start putting video screens in their shop windows...

I guess you just have to pick your battles? This seems like one that quite a large group of people is willing to put time and energy into, so if that critical mass is what's going to have an impact it seems worth trying to do something, no? And if it succeeds, perhaps it'll set an example elsewhere.
I wouldn't see one case as a case in isolation is what I'm clumsily trying to say.

I agree. And it's an interesting point. Once or twice I've talked to stallholders in Petticoat Lane who described how their market is gradually being reduced.
Closer to home I've also had long conversations with Tottenham businesses who don't understand why - as they see it - the Council seems to favour particular types of traders.

The Tottenham Plough? It shut down several years ago. It's now a betting shop.
Actually the contrast I had in mind was between Beavertown Brewery and Chick King opposite the Spurs Stadium - and due for demolition under the Kober/Strickland social cleansing plans. The former was linked to by Claire Kober in her recent article on the Labour List website. (Material from which has been partly recycled at public expense on the Council's website.)
I guess that Alex Tryfonos the owner and manager of Chick King made the mistake of not having a rockstar father.
Petticoat Lane? My speculation would be that 'the man' saw more profit in property development and pushing poorer people and businesses further out from the city centre. Just as elsewhere in London, New York, and hundreds more cities.

This is ludicrous. These images are a distraction on a corner containing two way traffic and a pub. Surely this means they are potentially a dangerous distraction. They are not fitting for the area nor are they in keeping with the environment. Residents including children should not be forced to live with these endless scenes of catastrophe. Surely something can be done to have them removed.

An exaggeration. As a motorist, I turn this corner at least once a day, often more, and I have never been distracted by them. In fact, if it hadn't been for the discussion on here I would never have noticed them.
