Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Please can everyone look out for my son's bike.  It was locked up to a lamp post outside our house, but the thieves cut through the lock.  Obviously, my son is gutted.  It's a very bright pea/lime green Raleigh mountain bike which is for about an 8-9 year old.  We are very close to Belmont Recreation ground and the Turnpike Lane end of Downhills Park Road.  This is such a mean thing to do.  It looks a bit like this one.

If you do see it please PM or call on 07949247125

Many thanks

Sorry - that's sad to hear.

Thank you.  I was more upset for my son than anything.

So sorry to hear about this. I'll keep a look out. Would be great to have more bike secure storage on the street (I don't know if you saw the post from a week or so back about Seymour Road and trying to encourage people to request bike hangers that can be used to store bikes securely?).

Thank you.  No, I didn't see the other post, but I will look it up.  We could certainly do with somewhere where bikes can be stored safely.

I don't know if it's connected but I also live on the same stretch of Downhills Park Road and someone has slashed my car tyre overnight too.

I hope you find your son's bike, I'll certainly keep an eye out for it.

That's horrible.  I'm sorry to hear that and thank you for keeping an eye out.  I have lived in this road for about 10 years and we did have a terrible patch a few years ago when car windows were being smashed every night all along Downhills Park Road and down Belmont Avenue.  It happened to me twice.  One time my mobile phone was stolen from my car and the thief ran up a £700 bill in calls to Romania!!  I did once see the kids responsible out at about 2am.  They were far away, but it looked like a teenager and a much younger, 7 or 8 year old.  In the last few years things have improved hugely around here, but about two years ago my car windows were smashed in broad daylight when my car was parked next to Downhills Park. Someone told me that it was an adult black male, as they had seen him do it, but I don't know if the culprit was ever caught.   I really do hope they catch whoever is responsible.  We could really do with CCTV around here.  I wonder how one goes about getting that to happen?

We've had too many bikes stolen, it's gutting. We no longer lock them outside because despite using the best locks, they've gone. It's a huge problem in Haringey. Make sure to report it to the police on the non emergency number and also check www. Bikeshd.co.uk. This website lists all for sale from all websites inc gumtree. We found one of our stolen bikes on there which the police helped us to retrieve.

Thank you, that's really helpful.  Yes, I know I probably should have kept it inside, but it was really cluttering up the hall and I had visitors staying.  I have reported it to the police.  It also had quite distinctive lettering on the main frame which I think said 'Skate' and a picture of a skateboard.  I'll definitely check out the Bikeshd website, that's really good to know.  Yes, I think Haringey really need to do something about it, because there are such a huge number of cyclists here (and obviously some quite ruthless thieves!!)

I feel your Pain. Its so upsetting. We are a family of 5 and we've all had at least one bike stolen each in the past year! Really good, expensive ones. My daughters built their own from scratch in my husbands bike shop. They were gutted. I'm constantly scanning for the lost bikes. It's hard to let go. We have bike racks in the house now. Annoying but necessary.

If this bike is any good for your son he's welcome to it. http://www.harringayonline.com/forum/topics/for-sale-kids-raleigh-m...

Amir, that is very kind of you.  What size is it?  The bike he was riding was for an 8-9 year old, but he is 10 fast approaching 11.

Best,

Kumari

Think it'll be ok for a 7 - 10 yr old. We're on Avondale road if you want to try it.
