Will Waitrose replace Woolworths in WG? (www@wg)
Woolworths shuts up shop tomorrow (Sat 13th Sept).
The king of 'I can't find it anywhere else' retail chain has been struggling at the till and has decided to close some large stores. Needless to say, the bargin hunters are out in force piling their trolleys high with a renewed (if short lived ) interest in Woolies.
Wood Green gets hit again after Waterstones did exactly the same thing recently. Thing is, this BBC article says some of these spaces are being sold off to Waitrose.
Waitrose in WG? ..... Mind you, they are in Dartford.
Maybe WG is heading for pound shop paradise again as the UK rides into recession (no ipod fridges on sale here). Or worse still;

You're right, I've heard that rumour too. Like we need another damned clothes shop!
Regards Waitrose, yes their sales are down big time & Morrisons are up (another northern invader of quality). Maybe Waitrose are going for a trial down market version. What better place to start than WG.

These rumours are the same as when M&S Food were moving into Iceland, it aint happening. Folk are swapping poncy food stores for middle of the road and budget supermarkets and who can blame them, when things are tight the free range partridge & rosemary sausages have to stop.

This is nothing to do with the credit crunch. There is also a rise in food prices directly attributable to our latest batty idea to cut carbon emissions.

Woolies has gone at the Angel, too, and is apparently about to become Waitrose. I liked Woollies, especially for household goods and children's clothes - plimsolls only cost £2 there.
Does anyone know about the other ones - Crouch End still there as of yesterday, but what about Muswell Hill and Archway?

Woolies are in big trouble; latest here. They're closing their larger stores, up to 120! Woolies has been around for 99 yrs but they have lost their way.

Too many leads & not a tight in sight;
'Mr Johnson said that poor availability meant that about 1,200 of Woolworths’s 40,000 products were out of stock at any time. Moreover, although the group stocked 54 types of pencil case and more extension leads than a DIY store, it did not stock other essentials, such as tights.'

Also they are selling electric irons at something like £3.49!! How can that possibly make any profit for anyone - let alone the poor people who make them.

Very good collection. Maybe a collection of these posters would make a good present to Gordon Brown on his resignation ... remind him of his socialist roots. :)
We're a little way off the Woolies discussion but speaking of Chinese art, I went to an incredible exhibition of video art a while back in Battersea Power station. Not only was the site rather haunting, so was were the videos.
