Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Another Ladder house has been illegally converted. This one at 72 Seymour Road has gone from 2 flats to 4. It was done very quietly, as none of us neighbours have picked up on it at all. Until now. The owner has waited exactly 4 years and 3 months before applying for a certificate of lawfulness. So he’s clearly been aware of what he’s doing, and is playing the system.
Legally it is too late to get this changed back to 2 flats, but I think we should all protest anyway. First of all to let Haringey Council know what we think of all the illegal HMOs that are cropping up, and also to really make them look at this case, and maybe set an example. Who knows?

Please add your objections, and let’s see where that gets us.

Thanks!

14 replies now, thanks.

I make the last day for objections next Wednesday (17th) so room for a few more...
We're up to 14 now. Go on people, can we reach 25 before the 17th?
Just a reminder that this Wed is last day to object.
Thanks Annette for posting the link - have now objected. Alison great letter.
20 objections registered. Thanks to everyone who've found time to do this. Will be interesting to see how they respond...
yes, thanks everyone! I can't wait to see what happens next. I think I know the outcome, but I also think we've made our point.
I saw that one coming, the landlord slipped past the 4 year limit.
The council are now investigating space issues etc. Hopefully it's a really shoddy conversion, or the flats are too small, I hope the landlord gets hell for this.
Where do I put my objections. I can't see any place to put them on the planing application page that I linked to?
Is too late I'm afraid - they have granted a certificate of lawfulness (by law if the flats have been there for 4 years or more this is all they do - crazy eh).

As Anette's post says, the flats are being investigated for space, safety etc. Fingers crossed.

Does anyone understand the logic of this 4 year rule? Why should things that are blatantly illegal be okay after four years? It doesn't apply to anything else I can think of.
Just an update on this one: Gina Adamou was going to pass this on and have someone go in and inspect, to see if size of flats etc. were according to council rules and regulations. I suspect this is another one where the council have actually rented the illegally converted flats, as they do with no 76 two doors down. I have recently done a follow up, and the reply I got was that "no-one's been able to gain access to the property yet". That was 2 weeks ago. I really can't see how that can happen, as this house seems to be crammed to the rafters with people at all hours. So something fishy is obviously going on.

I have also reported further suspicious building works at this property - not sure what the outcome is. This landlord has gotten away with first converting to 2 flats and then 4, both illegally, and we have to make sure it's not increased to 6!

If anyone else are interested in following up as well then please do.
