Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Anyone know what the event was in the North West corner of Finsbury Park today? We went past on the W5 and it looked like a lot of people were having fun.

God knows what it is but as a result lothiair road south is rammed with cars. The people who live here can't park in the street. If it's a legit then the council should have sorted out parking.

I saw this too, and was slightly shocked that I didn't know what it was. In fact, my partner turned to me and said 'What...you mean there's an EVENT going on locally and you DIDN'T read about it on Harringay Online? You're losing touch'!

We walked by and I was as surprised as others. So I spoke to a few folks and eventually ended up being introduced to the organiser. Most of what he told me about the event is explained on http://allevents.in/event.php?event_id=177861269056310

It's a real community affair. Anyone's welcome. Take along your own chicken and they'll cool it for you. Snaps later.
I'm sure it's great. It was on last year. It's just a shame our street is carpark. As it's legitimate then why can't the council ensure parking regulations?

Thank you for doing the sleuthing Hugh! There did seem to be quite a few people with their own BBQs but maybe no more than a usual Sunday in the park.

It's very local and without being in a position of losing my parking place for a day, I'd much rather be inconvenienced so my neighbours can party than to accommodate a music promoter's event.
Hugh, no one knew about it. Many of them went out with their kids for the day only to come back and be unable to park in the street. If it's for local people why didn't they get public transport? If thousands of people are going to attend the very least the organisers can do is notify people who live in the immediate vicinity.
Most would have walked. You saw the number of people. Cars to match would have filled half the Ladder.

I think the point is being missed here. It's fantastic for the park to be used in so many different ways. I would just like to be aware of it.

I couldn't find anything on the Haringey website about events in the park, and, more worryingly, nothing about the September festivals which will attract a considerable crowd. The only events which were mentioned were Arctic Monkeys and Wireless festival.

I traded numbers with the organiser when I met him and he rang me yesterday. He's aware of the need for better public profile and I made a few connections for him to help for next year.

Seeing as it's local and you don't mind being inconvenienced I guess you wouldn't mind popping down to Conningsby Rd and Lothair Rd South to pick up all the crap the locals left in our streets? Failing that can you contact the organisers and ask them to do it?
