Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Fortnightly Rubbish Collection in Milton Road N6
Family been at Milton since 1957(57 years) It used to be a lovely road to live in ,but the Council have compromisedour health with their so called savings.The fortnightly collection is unworkable
Had mice infestation for first time last year due to the amount of rubbish,we are not the only ones There is terrible stench in the street and now with the maggots from 3 over full bins we also have flies in basement and upper ground floors.
Cannot have windows open as stench is so bad.
After one week of emptying ,the 3 bins outside our property are overfull and the residents have nowhere to put their rubbish so it has stayed indoors and Therevis a backlog.
I personally have on a weekly basis taken sackloads to the dump,I am refusing to do Haringey's job anymore though.
The residentliving in the basement flat could take no more of this unnecessary filth and has left.
We have foxes excreting by the basementand front door regularly as they feed from torn bags in the pavement.
Also on the pavement are tin lids for animals to cut paws on,used condoms and rats. all you see when you walk down street is rubbish,OLD rubbish,flies,wasps and maggots
When I complained re amount of rubbish generated since fortnightly collection started I was told to get an extra bin,reported to enforcement,Veolia and haringey customer services.
Our green bin is often used as a rubbish bin so is not be very useful
There are only 5 of us at present,what happens when we are full house.
Many houses in this street have 4 people on each floor,so 16 in the house,in this and surrounding roads I highly recommend an exception to your fortnightly collection and bring back weekly or more in this highly densely populated area.
Outside our house today are 3 overfull bins,with maggots and rubbish on the floor.It is not a good way to live.
A return to weekly collection would prevent the health and safety issues resulting from the fortnightly collection.
Do we not deserve a better standard if living?

It won't be long before the rats have bitten through the plastic on these bins unless they are repelled by the maggots.
Funny, The Council is prepared to watch us suffer,maybe we can call out pest control.
Wait wait,they have decided not to have pest control either....
What did you say,you have it in 23,languages,well that's useful,all I wanted was my rubbish cleared

I would like to chime in here. I agree with your assessment of the bins and how they have changed a lovely neighbourhood into a rubbish tip. I live on Hornsey Lane Gardens and many of our houses have been made into multi-person flats. We often have 11 people all sharing the 2 bins and 1 recycling bin in front of our house. It is disgusting and the smell and vernon as we head into week two is overwhelming. I am supporting a few others who are film makers and looking to create a documentary about how this rubbish issue is affecting different families/people in the neighbourhood. Thanks for starting the chat.

I thought maybe we had forgotten to pay the council tax,poll tax,HMO fee or any other thing demanded from us,but au have checked and have paid everything
Yes the houses are Edwardian,some with 16,people all coming home from work to flies,maggots,stench and a certain wonder on did we get left behind?????

The rats spreading nicely.
And thanksvCouncil for producing it in community languages,I speak 2 of then and that's useful for the emptying of the bins

We could all ordersome extra wheelie bins,so currently zi have 3 black ones,could order 3.more and could house them in the roads which would solve the problem of any traffic.
This would mean the Council would only need to do a MONTHLY collection
Good news for the Council,as savings could be seen again
I know why don't we Order more bins for each road,could totally block the roads and they would become a become a rubbish tip.Then the Council would not need to do a collection at all.
What do you mean it has become a TIP already???????

I agree with the comments. I have a baby so you can imagine how our bins smell after 2 weeks being filled with his nappies!

I'm a resident of the Miltons, and the change to fortnightly collections has had an incredibly negative impact on our road. Most mornings, on the way to the tube, I have to side-step waste that has been spread across the pavement by whatever animal has got into the rubbish bag the night before. An urban fox greets me most nights upon my return home. Our neighbours have a fox den. Another neighbour caught a giant rat that made local and national press. Residents have witnessed groups of people scavenging through bins on a couple of the other roads.
The impression that I get is that Haringey Council simply does not care. Our local councillors, Christopher from the Residents' Association and a number of local people have worked hard on our behalf to get the Council to listen to us, but the Council only seem interested In the high Council Tax receipts that the area generates rather than providing the services that match those receipts.
We have worked collectively to try to solve an issue that has severely impacted an area we love to call home - this type of localism should be encouraged by the Council - instead it has been ignored.

Absolutely
Haringey should rename the area as Protected Safari Park for rats,foxes ,flies and maggots as this seems to be their deliberate strategy
Perhaps the leader of the Council should rename its mission to creating equal opportunities for vermin and scavengers.

How many nappies in the fortnight then?
Are we talking 10 a day/70 a week so 140 DIRTY nappies in this heat in a fortnight?
I am beginning to get the odour,and that's just from your baby.
This morning I saw mice by the rubbish.
I would advise others to walk in the road and not on the pavement for fear of catching disease due to the decline in the hygiene of the street,we are the abandoned ones.
Haringey have thrown away their public health duty,I feel they have been irresponsible.
Does anyone else agree?

Not everyone has a machine you know and hand washing not an option for many.
