Gove has been moved out of the education portfolio and replaced with Nicky Morgan.
Yet to see what Ms Morgan will be like but one hopes there will be less turmoil for schools with so many systems currently being changed beyond recognition. Cameron really is wielding that axe ...
Goodbye Gove ... won't be missing you at all

They always get a hatchet man/woman to do the unpopular work then replace them with a 'good cop'.
Truly the most divisive and destructive Education Secretary I can think of. Blinkered, out of touch, and trying to recreate the horrible education system of the past. His works are still with us.....handing over our schools to unaccountable companies and encouraging the dismantling of state education.
... a privately educated Christian lawyer ... who speaks out on Mumsnet ( no wonder Cameron was frightened into promoting her :)
So, Sharon, would you prefer to have in charge of Education one of the many who voted for gay marriage just because their leader, with all the gifts of patronage but little character, changed his mind? When sands of political correctness suddenly begin to shift, I think there's no harm in having in a cabinet one or two people who feel convinced that the little outcrop of rock they're accustomed to stand upon may not be such a bad foundation for conscience. That doesn't mean that such a minister is going to (be permitted to) oppose the law of the land.
That said, I know absolutely zilch about Nicky Morgan - apart from the fact that my mother was a Morgan also. Ms Mumsnet Nicky may turn out to be the worst Education Secretary even the Tories/Conservatives have ever produced - but that probably will have little to do with how she voted on gay marriage.
What does voting against gay marriage have to do with education ?
Or do you think a Christian shouldn't be in charge of schools ?
Totally agree with both your questions, John D. But then most people on here would probably chorus: "THEY WOULD, WOULDN'T THEY?"
A little present to Gove, .... maybe a T-shirt from FCUK (off)
At least he tried to run schools for pupils' benefit not the union agenda.
For Labour education policy in 'action' - see Wales.
Michael Gove made this claim. But it seemed to me that he was never prepared to objectively consider any evidence which contradicted his own view.
Nor to consider the possibility that many people who disagreed with him did so because they were genuinely convinced that they too were acting in the best interests of children. In other words, he "tackled the player not the ball" (the ad hominem argument) by describing his opponents as"enemies of promise".
But, please let's be clear. David Cameron has stood Gove down for the pre-election period. Possibly it's simply to freshen-up the party's image - especially by promoting more women to senior positions in the Tory team. Or perhaps it's because Gove is seen as a potential leadership challenger? Or could it even be because their focus groups have shown that Michael Gove turns-off the marginal voters?
But is there anything to prevent a secure and victorious Cameron bringing Gove back?

Fair enough, but the second line is the key point. 'traditional' education may not be flavour of the last four decades, but it did seem to work....and the biggest agent for social mobility was ability streaming and grammar schools - no, not 'elitist' but teaching pupils in the appropriate environment. All levels travel faster. (cue tirade by student on a bike anti 11+ blah blah blah).
I'll get me coat.
