It's been too long since I've been to Coldfall Woods. One of four ancient woodlands in the borough, it is truly a very special place. Earlier this evening we walked for a couple of hours through the woods, the Muswell Hill Playing Fields and into the abandoned tangle of the nether regions of East Finchley Cemetery. We must have seen about four people during the whole walk. I'd been looking for a London place with a little solitude and certainly found it here tonight.
If you click on the picture above, and then click again, it'll expand somewhat (though not to the 633MB of the original!). I've added a few other snaps below (if you click on them, you'll get better resolution, but no increase in size).
If it tickles your fancy, head over to the East Finchley Open this weekend, then go wander and immerse yourself in what felt this evening like a lost world.

When I worked at Fortismere I used to sit there and have my lunch. I would spend the whole hour there without seeing anyone! it constantly amazed me why no other members of staff would go there, not that I'm complaining. It's one of North London's best kept secrets. Well it was....
