Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Dear Lynne

 RE: Hornsey Sorting Office closure (parcel collection point)

 I understand from a local postman that arrangements have been made by Royal Mail to move the Caller's Office staff to Holloway and to consequently close the parcel collection point at the Hornsey Sorting Office on Tottenham Lane. Was there not a promise from Royal Mail to yourself to keep an alternative collection point open within the N8 area, even if not at Tottenham Lane? Not everyone is happy with Delivery to Neighbour scheme;

 This is the royal mail report:

Here's a small extract from the "omnibus research": looks like opinion is divided:

  • Choice: 80 per cent of consumers thought that they should be able to opt-in or
    opt-out of having their post left with a neighbour
  • Mail integrity: 23 per cent of consumers did not believe post left with a
    neighbour would be secure and private
  • Responsibility: 46 per cent of consumers were not happy to take responsibility
    for post they might accept on their neighbours’ behalf
  • Senders: 54 per cent of consumers stated that they would not be happy to send
    parcels or Recorded Signed For post knowing that this could be delivered to the
    recipient’s neighbour

Can you please contact Royal Mail again to find out what they are up to and let me know the outcome.

Yes that's what Lynne does on our behalf. Hopefully more influence than us mere mortals :)

And here's Lynn's (or her office's) reply;

Thank you for your email regarding the Hornsey Sorting Office.

I was very interested to hear that you have recently heard from a postman that the parcel collection point in Hornsey is due to close. As you say, we were given reassurances from Royal Mail that the sorting office would be kept open for the foreseeable future and I have not received any information from them to suggest that this is no longer the case.

The report that you have attached is from 2012, and is the reason that the Haringey Lib Dems and I, successfully, campaigned against its closure. Although I remain confident that the sorting office will not be closed, given what you have been told by the local postman I have written to my contact at Royal Mail and asked for the situation to be clarified.

I will of course get back to you as soon as I receive a response.

Kind regards,
