I still consider myself local, although I haven't myself lived within the Borough of Haringey since 1974 - now 40 years ago, but had done all my life up till then. All my maternal ancestors, three to five generations back were born or lived in the arc from Highgate Hill, Finsbury Park, Harringay, Tottenham and worked and ran businesses within it. I myself was born on the Highgate/Hampstead borders !
I suppose, now I'm a German.. I would call Harringay my 'Heimat' too! But when speaking English, I still have my Tottenham 'twang'

I guess Zoopla will tell you just how much your ancestor's house is worth today. What would she have made of that, I wonder.

I met the current owner when taking the photo.. Nice chap ! He was interested to hear that my ancestor was just a lowly gardener.

Yes, it's amazing how mobile Victorian Londoners actually were. Another ancestor, another Christmas death. My paternal great grandfather died at Lancell Street, Stoke Newington on Christmas Day 1886 aged 37. (Was born on Vine Street, Piccadilly in 1848). On his death cert. it says he was 'a Contractor', whatever that was. The houses on that street were a new (suburban) development at that time, so he must have been doing quite well for himself.
