Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi,

We are new to gardening and have created some raised beds and are now looking for top soil to fill it. We have purchased some from the tip but need a lot more and so I wondered if anyone had any tips on how to do this cheaply?

Thanks,

Lizzie

There are regular compost goveaways (hah that's a good typo) using the compost from the London waste centre.

Even better, I've recently found out that there's a permanent giveaway in Camden , at the Alara centre. in Kings Cross. Not sure how it works, their hours etc so give them a call. It's the composted garden, parks and food waste from all the North London boroughs. Brilliant for opening up soil, but it does need some topsoil mixed in as otherwise it drains too fast. You could use loads of this stuff plus a bit of topsoil for your raised beds. You can buy topsoil by the tonne from eg Wickes, not cheap but it comes to your door off a lorry in a metre-cube sack.

Thanks so much, this is super helpful. Thanks again, Lizzie

Hi

We are in the process of some major work on our garden and need to level a section, we are told the top soil is too good to put in a skip! Please let me know if you are still in need of some soil, you are welcome to come and have a look before deciding if you want it.
