I'm feeling ill equipped to make a choice in this year's local elections. Clearly others are too. SO last week I wrote to the four main parties as follows:
Through what I'm reading on line and from what people are saying to me, it seems that many people have no clear sense of what's on offer next Thursday.
To try and combat that I've put together a short set of questions, the answers to which I will publish on HoL. The questions refer to the whole neighbourhood of Harringay. I know time is short and I imagine you're flat out with very stretched resources, but, I'm very struck by how at sea people feel this year and, as I'm sure you'll agree, nothing can be more important than enabling people to vote on the best possible foundations of information.
Would it be possible for someone to respond even very briefly?
Party Questionnaire – Harringay Neighbourhood, 2014
These questions refer to the whole of Harringay neighbourhood. They do not focus on a single ward, nor do they refer to the wider borough. For the avoidance of doubt Harringay neighbourhood includes the whole of Harringay ward, part of St Ann’s ward and part of Seven Sisters ward. You cab a map of Harringay’s informal boundaries at http://goo.gl/maps/GtxNU
1. What in your experience are the principal issues that need to be addressed in Harringay neighbourhood as a whole. What policies do you have to take action on these?
2. Clearly a councilor’s ability to influence what happens locally is limited by many factors. Given these limitations, in your experience, how can councillors be most effective in enabling the clear wishes of residents be translated into action on the ground.
3. What is your view of the recently published site allocations plan that shows about 20% of Harringay's land area being opened up for development and how do you intend to respond?
4. This question is about how local people are represented at the neighbourhood level. Do you think that the appropriate bodies are in place at the Harringay neighbourhood level to ensure that locals’ voices are fairly represented? What body/bodies would you like to see put in place to improve the situation? What will you do to work towards this?
5. Please can you give a short pen picture of each of your candidates. How you do that is up to you.

Response from Conservatives
Labour and Greens have said they'll reply. No word back from the Lib Dems yet.
Thanks for doing this on our behalf, Hugh.
It will be great to finally read statements from each of the candidates in response to a standard set of questions, rather than having to pick through old conversations / threads searching for fragments of their policies.
I really am hoping that all of the parties will submit their response in time for people to fully consider the information before voting. It would be especially good to hear from the recently selected Labour candidates who have been so desperately quiet of late...
Here are the Lib Dem responses. My thanks and apologies to the Lib Dems, who somehow got left off the original email and were only sent the questions yesterday.
Nothing from Labour or Greens yet as of 12:45 am on election day.
Is this because of complacence, disinterest or disorganisation - or any other reason? Whatever the reason this does not bode well from people who claim they want to represent us for the next 4 years.
We need committed, hard working candidates that will represent local residents in Harringay. Considering the arguments and battles that have ensued the selection of some of the labour candidates and the fact that we have a group of unknowns standing you would think they would want to introduce themselves and what they stand for at the very least, but it seams not. I for one won't be voting for them - if they show such complacency now ........
As for the Greens, I am wondering if some of your questions pose a conundrum, particularly the one about the planned local developments. However, I will be voting for the Greens in the EU elections as they have excellent, knowledgeable and hard working candidates.
