Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Personally I find mini roundabouts confusing enough as it is. Nice one Haringey!

The fuss that the libdems are making of this is embarrassing them. There is an election in 6 weeks and this is the best they can do? Two of them were at the Standards Committee meeting on the 20th of March... anything they might want to mention went on there perhaps?

It is somewhat indicative of the shabby work council contractors are delivering all over the borough though. Just down the same road from the former wrong way roundabout there's a new speed hump so poorly constructed it's dangerous to anyone on a bike. Very poorly constructed speed cushions encouraging people on bikes into dangerous road positions and massively inconveniencing anyone riding a three wheeler or pulling a trailer (but not slowing anyone driving anything bigger than a small car) are appearing all over the borough. As are road narrowings, forcing people to cycle in front of buses.

But none of these things are as visually arresting as a wrong way roundabout, so I'm not surprised it's getting so much attention.

The LCC have got it right in today's Standard:

"While this roundabout mistake is somewhat embarrassing, at least it's a temporary one.

What's most frustrating for the large number of people who ride bicycles in Haringey is that so many local streets and main roads are not safe or inviting for cycling."

ps. I hope the upcoming elections shine a light on local libdems absurd and wrongheaded campaign to encourage more motor traffic onto local high streets.

Quite right John. Anything to avoid the at Ann's issue. It's the equivalent of saying "look behind you" and running away.

Well I honestly never meant to start a political thread (and if I had it certainly wouldn't in support of the fib dems)

The libdems have already started a thread about this. Copious photographs of "council incompetence". As we say in New Zealand: "it just takes one sheep".

Opposition where it counts. Indeed.

Sorry! I did search to see if it was on here (not very well evidently) how can I delete this one?

Please don't delete anything, Helen!

Nobody should be criticising any local residents for keeping their eyes open and spotting and reporting a silly mistake by Council staff or sub-contractors. There's lots to spot - probably more so as cuts mean far fewer staff out and about the borough.

Charlotte Pell, one of my favourite bloggers recently posted a piece headed How to reply to negative feedback from customers (in just two words...

Read and enjoy! Then please have a look at her other recent posts as Charlotte is currently on a creative streak. (Imagine Liz Ixer writing on management and you'll get the general idea.)

(Tottenham Hale ward councillor)

It really is a pretty bad mistake, though, isn't it?  I could imagine that some unwary driver might happen on it and just slam the brakes while wondering what was going on.  It takes only a split second of confusion to cause an accident.

Lydia Rivlin — so nauseated by vote rigging in the wards, venality in the Council, shenanigans in the Planning Department and disorganisation in the Social Services, that I signed up to fight it all by becoming a Conservative candidate in the May elections.  One thing about the Tories—they haven’t been corrupted by power round here.

Drivers in London pay no attention to anything other than the traffic.

I agree Lydia

Every time I approach one I think of a joke I read on one of those Buzzfeed articles about British:

Yesterday three British people arrived at a mini-roundabout simultaneously. They're still there.

That happens quite often at the Endymion Rd/Wightman Rd roundabout - nobody seems to know how to use it!
