Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Spate of burglaries postman robbery and our car vandalised in Hampden Lane N17

I seen a number of worrying posts re break-ins on the ladder roads but i wanted to give the word up about Hampden Lane off the old Tottenham High Road.

A break in during the day last month, then post man with his cart was robbed in day light from a car a week ago, and on Saturday our car was badly vandalised with keying all over it and the bonnet looks like a gang tag has been scratched into it. The police are looking into the possible tagging.

A neighbours friend who lives further up the actual high street had their second story balcony accessed and was robbed as they slept, they have no home insurance.

It seems there is a wave of break-ins and mindless vandalism.

Do any ladder roads have a community CCTV set up as we in our neighbors group are thinking of setting cameras up. Police and council say they cant afford CCTV for our lane.

Any thoughts?

Best

All the best

I've had my car keyed often enough, and windows smashed. And no, the vandalism itself isn't funny. But Alex's joke was and wasn't minimising the annoyance caused. Some people are just OVER-sensitive.

Seriously? We'll just have to agree to differ on that - I don't think it is over-sensitive to object to somebody poking fun at somebody's misfortune and then saying that they are hand-wringing. I think its rude and insensitive.

You're right. Nobody did die, but this isn't about that, it's about not feeling safe in your home or where you live.

Personally I don't like the thought of CCTV either, though it seems reasonable to me that in Vix's position I'd want to feel that something could be done to make things better. Taking the piss out of people feeling scared isn't the best way of making your point.

Hand-wringing? Unrelated? Lynne Featherstone recently asked MPS Haringey to put more officers on burglary duty in Muswell Hill because of an increase in burglaries there. I am surmising that this has been done and that these officers were pulled from Tottenham to do this which could be responsible for a "spate" of burglaries, as could a prolific burglar.

You're right, if I can look impassively at your joke it's very funny but it was the wrong post...

Regarding CCTV, I have a set-up primarily to watch my little motorbike. It's connected to a VCR at the moment. During waking hours I can glance at it at any time and do if a movement catches my eye. It can also be set up to my TV and to automatically switch to view via a movement sensor. When I go to bed I switch it to record and catch both the wildlife, night-life and lowlife of the area, some of it amusing, some of it quite disturbing. The problem is though that seeing said lowlife damaging or what ever your property while you were asleep doesn't stop them doing it in the first place.

Also, in the instance of a burglary, the burglar may well steal the item that the recording is on but there are ways around that nowadays.

If you and your neighbours were to get together with your own CCTV system, I would suggest that you cross lap the views so that if A is attacked or burgled, B's camera would catch the action.

Totally with you Alison. Some people needs to go away. Permanently. And far away. Wishful thinking, I know. Vix, I'm so sorry to hear about your car. Catch up soon?

Great replies here's thank you.
