Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Running in Harringay's Warehouse District from 9th-13th April, the inHOUSE Film Festival aims to celebrate the creativity and diversity of Haringey with five days of Film, Music, Fashion and Art.

The organisers say their mission is to "boost the profile of Haringey, through collaboration with the permanent residents, the influx of young professionals of the last decade and using our connections to encourage interaction with the wider arts and media world. Looking at urban and social transformation we showcase some of the best and most innovative short films, music and fashion videos."

With a nod to some of the tensions that surfaced on HOL recently, they go on to say that the festival will "explore a new vision of co-existing between the thriving local artistic community and the long term residents".

I'm wondering how the local community will get to hear about this event though Hugh. I'm guessing that most people on Tiverton estate for eg are not HOL members nor have computers at home. We do however have public notice boards on the estate, local shops and...of course letter boxes.

but haven't you already heard about it...here?

Abster, yes of course I have, my point is that most of the other long term residents won't have...

Well, it's not really that hard to go online and google the area you live in!

FWIW, I'm also with a residents' group very near the warehouses and we've never been contacted either - I could choose to take this personally as you appear to be, but seeing it from their POV I can understand why these guys may not feel an immediate need to go out and start introducing themselves to neighbours. After all, we haven't been that great at publicising our existence as an organisation either.

I'm not taking anything personally, just suggesting that a more hands on approach to link with the community might be better. Not being funny but Tiverton is a deprived area, as I suggested before not everyone here will have access to a computer or connection to HOL...that's all.

Hi Sharon

I'm organising the inHOUSE Film Festival, and I'm hoping to get more local, non-warehouse folk involved, or at least informed.

At the moment I'm the only person working on this full-time and its a massive task. I've been bringing more and more people in to help but even this takes time.

I apologise for not getting in touch, I am ashamed to say I wasn't even aware of the local residents groups. This is in fact one of the reasons I want to run events like this, to bridge the gap between the long-standing residents and the newer warehouse communities.

I would love to meet with you and chat about the festival and hear your thoughts on how best to welcome all and sundry to whats going on.

I work from home in Catwalk Place and can make time any day this week. Drop me an email alaypaun@gmail.com or call me on 07977 578 555 and let me know when suits.

Alay

Hi Alay, that's great. Would love to pop in and see you. I'll be in touch.

hi hannie, just seen your response. there are a couple of notice boards on the estate which could be used and perhaps ask the shops if you could put up a poster, im the secretary of tiverton res ass. we are supported by homes for haringey and get a bit kf funding. perhaps a joint venture in the future would be possible? feel free to send me a connection request. same for alay, ill try to come and see you soon.

Hi Abster

As per my reply to Sharon below, the same goes for you. I would love to meet up and find out about what your groups stand for, what your residents want and generally how we can better bridge the gap.

Please do get in touch and I'll be happy to meet.

Best

Alay

That would be great, thank you! We're @Vartry on Twitter - website link is viewable there. Would also be really good to have one of you guys along to our next meeting, although they're fairly infrequent. Will keep you posted.

Hi again

Let me know when is good for you and I can pop over to see you, or you're welcome to come to catwalk place.

either way, it'd be good to meet and i can bore you with all my plans for inHOUSE! :)

Sharon, you're clearly the perfect person to connect your part of the community with the warehouse district residents! Contact ingo on here. He will probably be able to provide you with some posters to put up ... and invite you in for a cuppa
