Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Running in Harringay's Warehouse District from 9th-13th April, the inHOUSE Film Festival aims to celebrate the creativity and diversity of Haringey with five days of Film, Music, Fashion and Art.

The organisers say their mission is to "boost the profile of Haringey, through collaboration with the permanent residents, the influx of young professionals of the last decade and using our connections to encourage interaction with the wider arts and media world. Looking at urban and social transformation we showcase some of the best and most innovative short films, music and fashion videos."

With a nod to some of the tensions that surfaced on HOL recently, they go on to say that the festival will "explore a new vision of co-existing between the thriving local artistic community and the long term residents".

Thanks Dave, I'm sure Ingo has seen my 'subtle' posts. I've mentioned on the these threads before that we have a residents association on the estate...there has been no interest so far from the 'warehouse district' some merging of the communities would be excellent.

Hi Sharon,

I run the Arena Association - we are west side, ashfield/oakdale. WE do deal with Jim from Oakdale and I hope the organisers open it up, as you say.

Ah...Jim! say no more. There are two residents associations. As you say Jim is over where the private houses are. Our association is on the Estate itself, (our community has different needs and concerns) with support from Homes for Haringey, we do get funding and perhaps could work with you on something in the future.

Deffo - gizza tink on 07535 449299 or arena.association@gmail.com, we could maybe have a comuniart tie in too. Didn't realise there was the Tiverton Assoc.

Will do :-)

Aren't these people squatters Hugh?

I bloody wish!!!

The ones I've met have talked about the rent, so I'd assume not.

Don't start me on the rent!!!

Hehe...I'd heard it was 'decent' but certainly not non-existent ;)

Hi John

The warehouse community is made up of young professionals, students, core workers, young, old, people from across the work spectrum...

And none of us are squatters! :)

Our homes are live-work spaces, where we rent rooms and share large communal spaces. There is a lot of creative collaboration and hopefully more inclusive events in the future. We have landlords who rent the spaces to us and are fully aware of our existence. Some councillors have been round to my warehouse for tea before and I'm pretty sure there were some at the Mayday event I ran last year.

You should come along to the film festival in April, meet some of the residents here and see some of the unique spaces we live in. All welcome.

Alay

So you're all registered electors where you live? That's interesting...
