Please don't assume to know what I think Clive or indeed anyone you may represent in the near future.

As a former Highgate resident I thank you for reminding me of the existence of the Parkland Walk, it is indeed a lovely place, but I asked the question because for me, I would not vote for a councillor that does not live in the ward he wishes to represent, no matter how close they reside. Maybe I'm alone in this way of thinking, we'll just have to see. Good luck.

Nicolas I've lived in this Borough for 27 years and know it pretty well. I've been working in Highgate Ward for nine months now; I've walked all of its c.100 streets, know most of its nooks and crannies, and spoken to hundreds of Highgate residents.

As have my colleagues: we don't take anything for granted.

Naturally I talk frequently to them to keep abreast of local issues: Cllr Robert Hare who has been a Highgate Councillor for some 12 years (also Cllr. Rachel Allison) and Liz Morris, who has long lived in the heart of Highgate and is a leading member of the Highgate Society.

By contrast, I suspect some Councillors who do live in the Wards they represent, may take them for granted.

I confess I can't understand your clause "no matter how close they reside".

Many local issues will relate to services provided centrally. Many people (IMO, understandably) are unaware of Ward boundaries. Whichever Ward you now live in Nicholas (is it in Haringey?) you are of course free to vote on whatever basis you wish; thanks for your good wishes!

By that reckoning the lucky people of Seven Sisters ward would not be able to enjoy the talents of their elected reps who live in Muswell Hill.  Seats in the Tottenham half are viciously enthusiastically fought over, as getting a Labour nomination means a shoe-in to a Cllr job and at least £10k a year.

Pam, as an aside, the bicycle to which above I referred obliquely, was supplied by a former leading local Labour Party member whose name I cannot divulge.

I can add however, that this person did say, while knowing where and for what purpose it would be used, "... and Clive, you can put your campaign literature here under these handy bungee straps."

This person knows who s/he is and is an asset to our community.

Nicholas, It's not always possible to stand in the ward in which one lives, there may be three perfectly good and capable incumbents there already.

What would be your view on candidates who worked in the area? Or even if they were council-tax payers in the area.
Would you have a similar view on Parliamentary candidates?

Pam, sorry about the delay in getting back to you about your question (I've been out most of the day on official business ;-)

Like the Labour Party, the Liberal Democrat Party does not select all its candidates on a single day.

Hugh is of course entitled to edit any press release as he sees fit—or not to use at all, so I'm grateful to him for publishing. As I'm sure Hugh would confirm, the following clauses were included in the release I forwarded to him and they preceded the list of Liberal Democrat Party candidates who were selected at last Wednesday's meeting:

The Lib Dems will be fielding a full slate of candidates for all wards in Haringey for the council elections in May.

-Some wards in Tottenham will be selecting their candidates over the coming weeks. A full list of Tottenham candidates will be sent when this is available. Harringay and St Ann’s ward candidates were selected this week.

Tak. It could be that in some wards, it would work in your favour to run just one candidate, where one person is disliked by many, but the other two are not.  Three candidates splits the vote.

Ah, at last the penny has dropped with me. The LibDems have not realised  there are other seats further east.

I recognise a few from the current line-up.  So Clive, tell us what happened?  Some are a real loss to the Council. Of the new bunch I recognise Ben Myring who has been assiduously practising synchronised scowling with Richard Wilson in preparation for the Glum Councillors website.

THANKS Alan for re-publishing my photo (above) taken in a Stroud Green street.

Ben's camera, but Carter Foto skills. Note the careful composition: dramatic depth of field, with the cross-road (Mountview) in the distance and one of the Council-marked big potholes directly below.

As a fellow photographer Alan, I hope you'll appreciate that I hope to bring a higher standard of photography – to the Liberal Democrat Party, if not to the Council.

In a similar vein, here's another taken in warmer weather in Southwood Lane (Highgate), featuring my colleague, Cllr. Bob Hare. He is a friend & a fellow cyclist. He also is a champion of Alexandra Palace.

Clive, my sincere apologies for not crediting you as the photographer. Unfortunately as I recall, your name didn't appear on the LibDem website.

Can I suggest though, to save space on the page, you use the handy facility offered by HoL to display photos in a smaller version. For people who don't know how, when posting photos you just click-and-pull the  corners to reduce the display size. Then if someone has never before seen a kerbstone or one of the renowned glum councillors pointing or scowling, they can click on the photo to enjoy it full size.
