Campaign to open a new nice cafe on Green Lanes
Don't get me wrong - I love all the kebab shops, and antipilar cafe does good mezze - but wouldn't it be really great to have either a lovely,french patisserie like the one in newington green over here, or a nice, slightly upmarket chain like a giraffe cafe? i really feel like there is somewhere missing on green lanes - you have to go to crouch end, stokey or newington green for any lazy sunday brunches, or mid week treats for yummy mummies, or someone nice and relaxing to meet your friends. i want to collect enough support to show one of the managers of these sorts of places that there is the demand for it on green lanes. does anyone out there feel the same way as me? i moved to the area 8 months ago from highbury and miss the cafes most of all!

Well. I'm very chuffed that my first ever posting has created one of the most talked about topics on HOL! And it's good to know that it's not just me who cares about the quality of a croissant.
By the way, I had a free sample of a pastry from the new Dolcetti at the weekend, and it was good. it seems like a nice place. The only problem is that there is hardly any seating there at all. If they would only change it round so that you could sit in, rather than just take-away then it might just hit the spot!

Cafe Lemon is good - a bit different and more varied, with nice interior. Popular with mums & dads with kids. Ultimately, however it is still 'another Turkish cafe'. So you are right, I guess, but I would say that even more pressing is a local market that sells organic produce. I resent having to go to Sainsbury's to get anything organic and my heart sinks whenever I enter Tesco Metro - plus it kind of defeats the object. I happen to know that the manager of Just Natural at the bottom of Muswell Hill has just moved to the top of Seymour Road! I've asked him about it before and he says there wouldn't be the demand. I think he's completely wrong - I think Ladder locals are crying out for a shop like Just Natural on Green Lanes. Does anyone agree? And it wouldn't mean Green Lanes would suddenly turn into Crouch End, which, personally, I would find depressing.

A few of us have spoken about this on other threads and in the pub. There isn’t the market for an organic fruit & veg shop in Harringay as it stands. Sure, I know loads of people who would possibly use it but the majority of Harringay residents wouldn’t.
We somehow seem to think that are social / peer groups represent our community, it doesn’t. I would love to see a vegetarian wholefood store/café in Harringay, it wall fall flat on its backside.
People want other cafes, restaurants, shops yet they don’t use the ones that cater for “us” now, ie The Garden Ladder, snubbing it.
Unfortunately the Crouch End effect and overspill is trying to push for such shops, yet there is not the market for it. A lot of new Harringay-ites (?) often move here because it is a short trip to Crouch End and Muswell Hill and use those facilities rather than “slumming” it in Harringay and use what it has to offer. This area is never going to become a “Middle Class White” ghetto like other areas have become, thankfully.
Variation of facilities is what we are all pushing for but we also have to be realistic in what we are asking for. Just my thoughts anyway.
