Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

It's interesting that when I google 'Harringay', Harringay Online appears before Harringay Council...

Excellent site. Well done guys.

That is because it's called The London Borough of Haringey.
There's no such thing as 'Harringay Council', that's why!

FOR non-locals, the different spellings can be confusing; however this could be one of the reasons for the success of this site. Some first time users may think they are looking at haringeyonline; and for any municipal-related purposes, it is in effect Haringey On-line.

Haringey is the Borough. Harringay is the area from about Harringay station to Turnpike Lane st

North-south I always use the New River as the southern border (also the borough border) and Ducketts's Common/Turnpike Lane as the northern one.

Northern end is both Harringay and Hornsey to add to the confusion so I live on the Harringay Ladder in Hornsey

Yes, I recognise that some people living on the north of the Ladder think of it as Hornsey, often because of the old postcode system which included all of N8 as Hornsey. So that includes all the Ladder roads down to Seymour and the whole of Crouch End and Hornsey.
For my money the whole Ladder is Harringay, but who am I to tell someone living in Lausanne that they don't live in Hornsey.

Google maps don't help. They are so sloppy (Crouch end is in Tottenham)

Harringay, Haringey is one of HOL's top Pavlovian triggers.  For more fun, you could try suggesting that Wightman is not a ladder road, or say anything to do with multi-occupancy lettings.

I didn't used to realise there was an area in Haringey called Harringay. When I went to a play-group with my son, whose 10 now, I remember asking another mum where she lived. When she replied "Harringay". I said, "me too, in Tottenham. What about you?" She looked at me like I was an idiot.
