Flame was closed last night? It's rarely busy. Such a shame because their food is different and good. Something - can't put my finger on it - is wrong there. It doesn't seem to attract people.
I notice the newcomer Hanci is almost always empty when I walk past. They won't survive for long at that rate.
Saturation point has been reached?
and PS - new Pizza place opening up on green lanes stretch after Falkland Road. Maybe an Albanian joint being on that strip.

Fair enough! I've just always had really great service there. I'm quite a prolific restaurant-goer, and the waiters there reminded me of service I've had in proper high-end joints; attentive but not intrusive, really polite, always quick to whisk away an empty plate or top up a glass of water, etc. This is particularly impressive when you consider how busy it invariably gets in there. Perhaps I was just lucky with the staff on the day?
I'm sure I've heard some bad stuff on here about Hala, so have not been in :)
Hala's my local and I eat and get takeaways from there regularly, food's good, staff are lovely. I've always been welcomed warmly and they've always taken the time to explain stuff on the menu etc.
Oh, that would be a shame if they closed. Since their refurbishment every time I passed by they've been empty. Their food is outstanding... I noticed they've reduced their prices a little while ago but suspect that cafe look didn't help. People like seeing their meat prepared on a grill, not in the back kitchen.
Agreed. I think the re-furb has been a problem. On top of which, I went in a couple of weeks ago to get a chicken doner - they don't do this anymore. So off to Selale I went...
I think the answer is in your post - " every time I passed by...."

That is most exciting news. I went looking and found it on Green Lanes between Frobisher and Falkland Rd's. A guy came out when i was peering in the window and said they'll have proper Italian style pizza at very reasonable prices and should be open before Christmas. Can't wait.
Bianca is good, fingers crossed this is something like that. Yes its the nearness factor, we've not so much up this end of the Ladder.
Maybe it has just reached saturation point for Turkish restaurants now? I'm not completely sure of this - there have been times when we've fancied Turkish and had to resort to a 'third choice' option because our first two preferred places have been full! But I can see how smaller ones are likely to struggle with all the options available.
A lot of HOLers seem to want more variety; seems logical that this is the way forward for smaller businesses at least.
I'm a regular at Yayla and thus have been stymied since its closure for refurbishment. As a temporary solution, we tried Flame once but didn't like the layout of the place, although the food was fine.
I must admit the prolonged closure of Yayla, with no visible sign of work being done, looks ominous. I don't know what we'll do if it doesn't re-open. I don't like the look of these double-size places with people queueing up to get seated. I prefer somewhere more plain, low-key, and cosy. I like a quiet, relaxing experience and Yayla was perfect for that.
