Old gas canister

I have hauled a large old gas canister out of my basement - still with some gas in it. But having left it outside the house for two days it has failed to 'disappear' so looks like I need to dispose of it properly. Where?

Odd, does it have asbestos insulation? If so requires expert disposal

No idea - it's the sort that went in those old-style heaters.
