OK - so for the 2nd time in a year we have had our doorbell stolen! (as has the flat upstairs!)
We're on Alfoxton Ave. Is this a common type of crime? Is there a doorbell shortage in the borough - are they being old on for profit? I honestly can't fathom it!

Is it gold plated with diamonds or cheap plastic ?
Apparently doorbell thieves pop up occasionally (just like politicians on doorsteps), or so says Google (who incidentally ranks your discussion at no.6)
According to one of the forums wireless doorbells can interfere with each other in a neighbourhood - driving people potty! Is your doorbell set-up wireless? Maybe when someone rings your bell it rings the neighbours bell (which would have to also be wireless). They might have got fed up and taken your bell or battery out.
It's just a cheap plastic one - though it was wireless - but our neighbours non wireless doorbell went too!
If someone else's doorbell was affecting my doorbell, I would change the frequency on mine rather than resorting to criminality. It doesn't seem like a very smart solution to me!
Some people! ;-)
My aunt had hers stolen in Brighton, about a month ago. It was solid brass. Taken, perhaps, in the dead of night. She was gutted as it had been there for an era. Replaced it with a cheap one so as not to encourage further events.Sorry to hear that this is happening up here too. Horrible.
