As I understand it (and I'm sure someone will be along shortly to correct me if I'm wrong), the ladder straddled the boundary between Hornsey in the west and Tottenham in the east, which is why halfway up some ladder streets there is a change from paving slabs to tarmac on the pavements.  So, it depends which bit of Harringay you want, really!

I'd guessed at hornsey for the ladder but no familiar road names in eighteen forty something or other death records. Maybe a healthy year for tbe ladder!

I don't think the Ladder was even built in 1840. I would guess 1880-1900.

On a street sign for Green Lanes (just up from Sainsbury's) it says London Borough of Stoke Newington on the bottom.

I'm sure someone must know all of this. But a quick look at the hornsey records included blackstock road. Not got time to have a proper look, was just browsing whilst in the mother of all traffic jams on the north circular in between handing out chocolate buttons abd stopping the children from going too mental.
