Finsbury Park Stairs Between Tube & Train to be Closed

This in from London Transport:
From Monday 19 August until the end of March 2014, the spiral staircases between the National Rail and the Tube platforms at Finsbury Park station will be closed.
This will enable us to double their capacity, as part of the Tube Improvement Plan.
Access to all services will be available, but it will be extremely busy at peak times. If you use the Tube, please consider using nearby stations to start your journey. If possible, National Rail customers travelling to central London should change at Highbury & Islington or King’s Cross St. Pancras.
If it is essential that you change between National Rail and the Tube at Finsbury Park, please exit the station via Station Place and then re‑enter, signage will be in place to assist you.

This is a surprising proposal as there are two separate staircases, and one would have thought refurbishing one at a time might have been a more sensible approach. Furthermore there has been no prior information issued to consult on the plans and the suitability of the new works.
I hope this will not be as big a cock up as the very badly designed new platforms and staircases at Alexandra Palace station. As usual the last people to be asked are the passengers, whose fare revenue and taxes pay their wages.

The odd thing is that there is no official published information online about these works anywhere. The old step-free access plans have been updated, but we haven't been told how. The refurbished stairwells should be stage 1 in a plan that includes lifts to the LU platforms and the new Western Ticket Hall (which we know to be under discussion with the City North developers), but nobody is talking.

I think it is great news that London Transport is improving access and this should be encouraged - the plans have been known about and made public a few years ago as part of a proposal to proceed step free access.

The trouble is if they 'just get on with it', they can just Cock It Up too!. I've seen more Network Rail and Transport for London Cock-ups, over more years than I care to think of. Alexandra Palace station is just a mess. I'm having to deal with another one in Leyton, out of our patch I agree. But spare me Billy, they don't 'arf screw up sometimes! And why so long, why both at the same time? Printable words fail me!
Yes Liberty, it was outlined, but then the money disappeared so we never got to see final plans. The Inspector at the Thameslink 2000 inquiry, the referred to the staircases as the Helter Skelter, and no plans were produced then! No Network Rail, piss-up in brewery job, as most of the Thameslink project has been. The next one is the DafT order for the new trains! 12 coach fixed formation trains whizzing lots of hot air around. Bonkers!
