Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi,

Last year there was a lot of discussion around the consultation on the new, expanded, Thameslink, which will include cross-London trains that will stop at Finsbury park - and maybe at Harringay & Hornsey.

I can't see any more recent update on that consultation, but I did see this on the London Reconnections site:

"However, the long-neglected Harringay and Hornsey stations can only handle 6-cars, and their extension may not be easy.

Further, following the completion of suburban line segregation, unless money is found to build new platform faces, Hertford Loop services will no longer be able to call at those two stations, leaving them reliant on Welwyn services (whether those heading to/from Moorgate or through the Thameslink core) to maintain current service levels; we will explore this further in Part 2. After local pressure, the DfT confirmed that Thameslink 8-car trains will stop at Harringay & Hornsey, but as yet there is no word on whether platforms will be extended or whether these stations will rely on the politically-problematic Selective Door Opening."

This seems to suggest a potential reduction  of services from these stations, but also that there will be services through Thameslink to South London & beyond, though "Thameslink’s final shape remains partially opaque even with only three years left to completion."

Does anyone have any more info?

NB According to the comments a 'part 2' article is due soon, which will include more on Harringay & Hornsey....

I don't have much faith in the ability of those whom don't live in the area making decisions, not enough participation from residents as I'm sure overworked to pay the rent to find the energy to participate, why do gov councils rush through schemes? need transparency and honesty to be able to make informed decisions. Difficult to trust self servative condems and their batty schemes. Improvements required that benefit the residents but if they can't even afford transport at the extortionate prices..... I'll stop now as could go on endlessly, please have traffic free cycle routes for those who can't afford transport.

I've received the following email from the Liberal Democrats which links to a survey:

Last year, the local Liberal Democrats contacted local residents about the planned changes to our local rail services. The plans were paused for a number of months - but they have now been resumed again.

Changes to the ‘Thameslink Rail Franchise’, currently run by First Capital Connect, will affect Bowes Park, Alexandra Palace, Hornsey, Harringay and Finsbury Park stations. We really welcomed the Government's investment in the service - including the £1.6 billion being spent on new longer trains. But we are concerned about possible service reductions at smaller stations like Hornsey and Harringay where the platforms are not long enough for the new trains.

During the initial consultation period, we wrote to thousands of local residents, and we then submitted your views to all the companies bidding to take over the service.

On behalf of local residents, we strongly opposed any service reductions and said that we would like to see improved platforms and facilities at certain local stations to prevent such reductions.

There will not be another consultation, but there is still time to meet with the companies bidding to run the service – and tell them what you want to see in their bids. And that’s exactly what we’re doing – with our first meetings in just 2 weeks time.

We still have our survey results from last year, but it would be great to get some further, more up to date opinions.

Please take just two minutes to let us know what you think about your local rail services – for instance, what you would like to keep and what you would like to improve. We will pass these onto the companies and ask that they consider them when making their bid.
