Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Is it a church or is it a night club???
Is anyone else being disturbed regularly by the late night events that take place at the Greek Orthodox Church of St John the Baptist on Wightman Rd?
I have contacted them regularly asking if they have a late license as I would be surprised that such a residential location would be granted one. I have had no reply!
I don't think it is appropriate that weddings/parties/events should go on past 11pm so regularly on Sundays....am I alone?
I realise we all have to diversify in the current climate, but I never thought I'd be making a noise pollution complaint about a place of worship!!!

I live opposite, and am sensitive to noise, but I've never heard or seen anything late at night.

That's because the church itself blocks the noise from your place. Down towards Green Lanes it can be very loud.

Maybe just pop into the church and speak to the priests? I imagine they will have some form of licence in place to cover them for events such as weddings ,christenings etc.. normally the church halls hold functions but they also are restrictions for theese events ie.. times etc

I had already contacted with the priest a while back and he said they ensure events don't go on too late or too loud. This is not the case in reality and my further emails are not getting any reply.
I am not opposed to people celebrating - I do it from time to time myself. I just find the late, loud Sunday nights difficult as most of us have to be up early for work on a Monday. Also I am always one to engage in conversation before taking any formal action, but the lack of response over the last few months is making me feel I might have to take a formal approach.

Hi, I just looked up e licensing register of Haringey Council and they have no licence at all. Contact the licensing team at the council and cc your local councillor. Unfortunately the Council is very lax with their licensing, but in this case I think they would have to do something.
Good luck, unfortunately I have personal experience of noise and it is really not pleasant.

What kind of license are we talking about ? If the Church doesn't sell the alcohol but the people organising the function provide it at no cost to the participants, do they need a license ?

I don't think you need a license to consume alcohol (you need one to sell alcohol) but you need a license to provide regulated entertainment (amplified music etc). I think sticky should ask the licensing team, the environmental team (noise) and copy a couple of local councillors explaining that it has gone on for a while and asking what she needs to do in order to gather evidence.

My friend Lucy Lastic (Ms) and I have been to the church many times. The first time the air went very cold, the earth trembled and the plaster started falling off the ceiling. We were relieved to find it was a very heavy artic the driver had replied to one of Lucy's small ads in Truckers Weekly. When we were there last week we joined in with a wonderful version of 'Oh Happy Day' originally sung by Stephen Hawkins and a rousing version The Hokey Cokey (I've never seen Lucy put so many things in without taking anything out) I must say it was a bit noisy so were sorry if we kept you awake.
