The thread about Obergine being sold and the speculation about what kind of shop it will become, made me think about what kind of shops or restaurants I'd like to have on Green Lanes. What if we could choose, what would it be?
Friends of mine would like a Waitrose, and I used to want Pizza Express or an M&S food. But maybe a deli that sells wine, cheese etc would be nice too.
I'm very interested in what others would like, so GO!

If you want fresh seafood and some fish DO try the Wonderful Zhous, just past Turnpike Lane Station (and mention you heard of them from us).
Watch my short video to see just how fresh their seafood is. Rob Tao tells me that following my recommendation his mum has become a confirmed and regular customer. Chinese ladies are VERY choosy about where they get their food. If it's good enough for Mrs Tao, it's good enough for me!
Yes, I already know of it and use it Hugh. It's good, but not really a substitute for a full-on fishmongers right here on the High Street! I'll keep dreaming about that.
Agreed, but there are very few full-on fishmongers that give full-on fish. Where are they north of the river? Of the ones that are any good, theres' Steve Hatt and Brown's in St John's Wood. Probably others but I've not found them. So for seafood I'll vouch for the quality of the produce at South and North and also at Wing Yip near Brent Cross. Then I get a bit stuck.......
I'm sure there's a fishmonger on Turnpike Lane, which is Harringay after all :)
Then there's Crouch End and Muswell Hill ( which aren't )
Check out one of my other posts on this thread. As well as Steve Hatt, there's a superb one in Highbury Park that opened one or two years ago. Really good quality and decent value, especially for the quality. I was speaking to someone at the market last Sunday who gets her sushi grade salmon and tuna there (she has a Japanese boyfriend) and swears by it. Of course you have to be ultra sure if you want to eat sashimi.
Not quite in the same grade as these two but still good quality solid high street fishmongers are Walter Purkis, with branches in Crouch End and Muswell Hill. Although I'd love a fishmonger of the quality of Steve Hatt or the one on Highbury Park, I'd settle for one like Walter Purkis. We need one!
I'd like to see a contemporary art space. In fact I'd like to run one!
