I took my first trip to Park Rd lido this afternoon since its been under Fusion management.
I can report that the policy is now to shut half the lido - "To save money on lifeguards"
In practice, because 50% of the remaining space is sectioned for lane swimmers only a quarter of the pool is available for children, families & casual swimmers.
Not so good especially considering they've increased the price of adult entry by 24% since last year to an eye-watering £5.60 per swim - with, according to the counter-staff, no discounts available through membership.
The very helpful duty manager gave me the email address of the site manager
hartley.alleyne@fusion-lifestyle.com
And suggested I complain to him but I wonder if anyone has the relevant contact in the council so I can cc them too - presumably when they accepted Fusion's tender it wasn't on the basis of only providing half the facilities available under the old regime.

Can i ask you what time you went and how many people were there outside ? If there were only a handful of swimmers i can (sort of) understand closing part of the pool. Did you find it overcrowded in the part of the pool you were using due to the part closure ?
I was there from around 3:30 - 4:30
I counted around 50 people there with quite a few more coming in when I left.
In terms of overcrowding it wasn't as such but it did feel like a small pool rather than lido experience. I think if there'd been twice the number of people or more people in the water at the same time it would have felt constricted.
The lifeguard I spoke to suggested that this was "how things were now" rather than it being a one day thing.
With regard to the pool attendant, did the part pool closure make any difference to their panoramic view of swimmers ? I mean watching half a pool isn't any different to watching the whole pool area in my opinion. Or do they have to have two attendants normally, one on each side of the pool ?
Now i'm thinking about it there's a lot to discuss. You have to be there really.
Both life attendants were on the same side - interestingly London Fields - a busy 50m lido covers the whole pool with 2 lifeguards.
I've remembered the duty manager explained that Fusion have assessed the capacity of the pool to be 348 - thus implying that until there were 174 people in the water simultaneously they wouldn't open the other half of the pool.
As one lane is being used for lengths and assuming each person takes up 2.5m when doing lengths there could only be a maximum of (50 x 2) / 2.5 = 40 people in that lane.
Consequently you'd have 134 people in the casual lane before they'd open up the rest of the pool - very cosy.
Wait... .. There's still two attendants covering the whole pool ? - Sorry I'm lost now
Half the pool was open so they had 2 lifeguards - I assume there saying if the whole pool was open they'd have 4 but who knows
There was only ever two attendants covering the whole pool before - If there's still two how does that save money ? Thanks for your patience adam. We need to email fusion for some answers.
I could remember how many but yes that makes sense.
And as I originally mentioned cc the relevant council person.
I have emailed hartley.alleyne@fusion-lifestyle.com
Let all email hartley.alleyne@fusion-lifestyle.com
Nicely done James,
I suspect Mr Alleyne will be acting under instruction but lets see what he comes back with...
